View Full Version : Long term problems after gastroenteritis

I have now been travelling for 6 and half months. 2 and a half months into my travels I went into hospital with acute gastroenteritis and was discharged 24 hours later. Although loose stools stopped being an issue my stomach remained a problem with intense nausea and indigestion for about 2 months afterwards which was not even helped by going on the brat diet for long periods of time. So 6 months down the line this acute problem oif nausea and indigestion has calmed down but my stomach is still very unsettled - occasional bouts of nausea and constant problems digesting food (esp after alcohol. Is this common? What can be done? The BRAT diet is not working.

Hi JOhn Smith 19,

If you have gastroenteritis, you should not drink any alcohol. You may want to limit the amount of coffee, tea, chocolate and citrus you eat/drink also. This will help you to feel/get better faster. Are you taking any kind of meds. for your stomach? You need to. Probably something like Nexium or Protonix and maybe Sucralfate (coats your stomach at night.). Also do not lay down for 3 hrs. after eating.

I hope you feel better soon. Sound like you should go to a dr. and be further checked out. Take care. Wannabe
