Hi. Does anyone have now (or in the past) pancreatitis, and if so, what did you do for it? Was yours acute or chronic? Dr. ran a Lipase and Amalyse (sp?) enzyme test today to determine if my pancreatitis has come back. I have had it one time before (twice, if you count when my gallbladder was removed years ago). I am in major pain and would like some info on how to deal with this (and still manage to go to work). Thanks!

Funny you should post this. I just got home from the hospital today after being there for 4 days.

I was having a bad week of GERD and then felt pain on my left side. I was dizzy and felt sick and went to the ER they told me it was my pancreas!! They kept asking me if I drank and I said no (I don't!)

I was on IV fluids with no food or water for 2 days, and both my stomach and the pancreas calmed down.

Now I am back home and eating again and the pain is coming back.

They just sent me home with nothing. No aftercare, no information, nothing.

Mercy! It seems like they are trying to kill us or something! I DO feel your pain! My enzyme tests came back normal, so they are telling me it is not my pancreas and they don't know what the cause of my abdominal pain is. Now I am wondering about an ulcer. Meantime, I have spent countless hours in pain and $30 so far for nothing. I will have to go back again (kerching! the cash register!) Grrrr!!!
In the past, they have not done anything for my pancreatic flareups either; Last time, they just gave me a shot of Toredol (sp?) which works well, by the way, for the short term. They also gave me IV's and everything settled down. If you are hurting again, they should recheck you and run your enzymes again. Taking enzymes from a health food store can help support your pancreas. If you have no gall bladder (like me), get some with Ox Bile as one of the ingredients. Don't get the ones with HCL (hydrochloric acid) or you will be in more pain.
