New to this forum,I have to guit smoking for a revision surgery on my back.
All of you are very informing and strong .I've quit in the past and stupidly started back up.I'm looking forward to saying I'm a nonsmoker.
I have just smoked my last smoke.I have to say I enjoy smoking and with age it's not the best for me.I have to be nicotine free for 4 months before surgery. The surgery is 14 hours and poor lungs will complicate the antistesia.
If I don't have the surgery I can end up paralized. So its a win win situation.
I just shreaded a carton a cigs. But just think of the money I will save.
I know my children will hide from me for a few days,I was gonna wait until they started back to school, but each day put off is a day longer I have to wait.
Any advice and support,I sure could use it.
Thanks
Toni

Hi Toni--
I'm sorry your post got over looked...sometimes that just happens, we don't mean to. :)
Well, did you quit, Toni? Yes, now is as good a time as ever, and especially if you are going to have surgery, well, then it's a MUST! Your body will heal a lot faster as a non smoker, and your lungs will do better with the anesthesia.
Wow, that's a long surgery! (I just looked at your message again). You tell those kids of yours to be patient with you...at least you'll be around for them later in life! And if things get to be too rough, (and you get too crabby), then by all means, go get you some patches, gum, or any other form of NRT, JUST DON'T SMOKE, okay?
Let us know how it's going for you. We're here to help. :)

Toni,
I too had to quit for surgery! I wont lie...it was soooo hard!! One thing that helped was a friend of mine was quitting at the same time, so I would call and SCREAM on his voicemail when I had to and vice vs. Also I would write him a million emails whining and crying like a baby. We just enforced each other. Be strong!!! Man, it was HARD!!!!!! I mean, I turned some of my good friends into enemies! Well, not really, but I really hurt a few people that I care about cause of my dumb crabbiness! That was my biggest fear in quitting. God bless them, they forgave me!
I just remember, during surgery time, when they were putting all the tubes in me and I felt the antibiotics going thru me (b4 I went to sleep and had the tube down my throat) I felt the graveness of the issue and thought to myself, I'm sure glad I quit!!! Its not worth the complications or your life...I know u know this!
I did take a hit a couple nights ago and can I just say....yeck!!!! What I would have killed someone for a month ago is now just...yeck! Now, my friend and I laugh at how we cried like babies...thats addiction for ya! Good luck. May God bless you and keep you safe and healthy!
