I've been to the dentist today and was told i needed 2 fillings. I already suffer from tinnitus and im really scared that the noise of the drill will do more damage, i really am scared of any noises these days.

I'm also concerned about the anethetic injections, its not the type that puts you to sleep, rather the numbing type. I think the teeth are at the back.

I don't want to do any more damge to my ears and im deadly scared that the dental surgery could do me more harm.

Im really paranoid about anything to do wiith my ears, or doing any more damage, so anybody with any helpful words please leave a reply.

Cheers,
Shaun

hello shaun

i have had tinnitus for 13 years and was and still am cautious about going to the dentist, i have had quite a few fillings done since then and a minor op to saw out a tooth from the jaw, i have not yet had any increase in the tinnitus from the drilling, i found the slow drill to be more upsetting even that did not bring about any increase, i relate to how u feel, does your dentist know u have tinnitus if not let them know they will take it a bit easier for u. i tried ear plugs i think that made it worse for just for the duration of the work because it confined the sound.....the anesthetic they use to numb , they have actually used to , in some people with tinnitus, stop it for a while, till it wears off, tho that is directed more into the ear than the gum, i am wary of having to take any new meds for the impact it may have on t so i always get the pharmasist to check or i check myself on the internet now.......hope this helps a bit
