puffy eyes all day? Back in December my eyes started swelling, I've seen an opthamologist and he diagnosed me with meibomitis. He gave me a script for Tobradex and didn't say much else. He couldn't explain the puffiness around my eyes. I look like I haven't slept in days!!! Since then, it seems to have worsened. My eyelids are red and swollen now and I still have the undereye bags. When you apply the slightest amount of pressure on the puffiness under my eyes, my lacrimal glands bulge out. It's the strangest thing and it's driving me crazy!!! I'm only 31 and I shouldn't look like this. I desparately need help!! Thanks for your respones!!

Yes have that too - I went to the ophthamologist about 2 months ago and he said blocked eyelid glands - told me to do the hot compresess three times a day and that it was a chronic condition. Went back after one month - my eyes looked worse - eyelids were very red - I think from too much hot. Now he says to see a dermatologist - he thinks I have a skin condition on eyelids. They are very red and flaky - on and off - I never know what I will look like when I wake up - it is very frustrating. My dermatologist appt. isn't till middle of Sept, so I just have to wait. I've been putting a little hydrocortisone on my lids at night - seems to help a little with the redness.

jcolgrove,
i know exactly what ur going thru. i got the same problem when i was 17, so you should be grateful u got it 14 yrs later!!! i have the same puffiness around my eyes as if i hadn't slept for days and the undereye bags. i think its a common thing for meibomitis. the good news is that you can get better and there have been people who have recovered and cleared up the disease. what you have to do is warm compresses, i'd say 4 times a day, with lid massages and lid scrubbing -- there's many websites on how. also ask your op about doxycycline: its an antibiotic that can really help. i've had it for over three years now, but unfortunately only found out what i had a year ago. for the past two months i've been really rigorously treating it and been taking doxycline -- i have seen considerable improvements. its SLOW and may take over a year or so to clear, but you have to be patient and have faith. that's what keeps me going. meibomitis is one of those things that no one's heard of until they get it and we would be PERFECTLY happy w/out it huh? many times i've asked God why I got it and what my life would be like w/out it, esp at my age....i used to be really happy w/ my appearance.... but i have faith it will heal soon. its frustrating b/c people dont give it much credit and claim ur fussing over nothing but u know ur not.....
keep in touch and let me know if i can help you.
btw, do u have any other symptoms besides the puffiness? do u have rosacea? when i first started i also only had just puffiness but later i had other symptoms.

Thank you both for your responses!!! Ladymoon, I just replied to one of your posts on the bleph/mgd thread. LOL It does make me feel better that I'm not crazy and that other people know what this is like. This is definitely an affliction that most people don't take seriously. Family and friends act that I'm making a mountain out of a molehill. This has been really hard on me emotionally, I think about it and look at my eyes almost every minute of the day! What other symptoms do you have Ladymoon? I've been thinking lately that maybe I do have rosacea, my skin definitely is doing something different that it's ever done. I've been breaking out with tiny pimples but I've thought it was just the humidity or this self-tanning lotion that's been clogging my pores but I'm starting to rethink that theory. My eyes have progressively gotten worse over the last 8+ months. I've been through so many treatments, cat-scans and blood work...been on at least 4 different antibiotics. I didn't like my OP so now I may have to start all over with a new one....it's very frustrating! I liked your optimisim! Has any of your swelling gone down? Do you have rosacea? Thanks for answering my questions! Good luck NJpeg at your appt. in Sept. keep us posted!!
