I seem to be aging at a faster rate than most. My skin is getting very thin. Is there anything out there to help me?

Welcome Georgi,
Yes! Chemical peels-specifically glycolic acid, phenol, and trichloracetic (?) acid. Not sure of the spelling on that one, but it's also called TCA. The phenol peel can only be done by a licensed practitioner, but the other two you can have done pofessionally or you can buy lower concentrations that you can do yourself at home. I do them at home. I'm 47 and my husband will be 36 in a couple of days. I have to work at staying young looking but it's so worth it.

There can be risks even with the home treatments so if you decide to try one of these, you can get a lot of good information online at various medical universities.

Also, you might get your hormone levels checked. I heard another poster say that a woman started on bioidentical hormones and it really helped her skin.

hello, i have been look at a treatment for my acne that might be of use to you, I have seen loads of stuff im papers about it lately and I have been trying to find someone online who might of used it to see what they think.

its about regrowing your own skin so might be much better than a peel if your skin is already thin.

I tried to put a link tro a newspaper article but it wont let me, you can just google isolagen if your interested

This strikes me as odd, how do you know you have thin skin??? How does a person find out their skin is thin?

If you look at the skin of older people, especially on the hands and face and under the eyes, you can see that the skin is thinner. Everyone's skin gets thinner as they age, except where there's lots of sun damage. There, the skin gets thicker, but not in a healthy or attractive way. Look at the skin under your eyes, even if you're young. It's thinner than the rest of the skin on your face.

Acid peels like TCA and Glycolic (and others) makes your skin look younger by helping to produce more collagen which is what gives skin its thickness and elasticity.

Ok, I get it now...after I posted yesterday I was thinking to myself that the elderly do have paper thin skin, but with them it is more obvious. So, what are acid peels? Also, I have been exfoliating my skin daily, does that slow the aging process too?

Yes, I'm always full of questions, lol.

Yes, I'm always full of questions, lol.Acid peels are products that are applied to the skin to remove the outer layer of skin cells - The cells that we normally shed pretty fast when we're young. As we get older, the skin cells don't shed as fast and the skin starts to lose that nice smooth look. The acid peels work a lot like exfoliating with a scrub except it's a chemical. I read recently that some of them even promote colagen production. The colagen is what makes the skin look supple and prevents sagging and wrinkling.

I've been using Alpha Hydroxy 10% by Neoteric since I hit my early 30's. I ran out a while back and couldn't find the 10% so I bought the 8%. I don't know, I don't think it works as well for me. I'm thinking of trying one of the newer peels anyway. Here's a list of the stuff I have saved in notepad so far. I've been collecting this list for a couple of years now. I don't know which one or possible combination works the best. I guess I'll just have to try some.

From what I've learned so far, the first two on this list look the most promising.

salicylic acid
trichloroacetic acid (TCA)
hyaluronic acid
glycolic acid
vitamin E in the form of alpha tocopherol
vitamin C
malic acid
citric acid
tartaric acid
lactic acid
alpha-lipoic acid
Kinetin
carrot seed
tazarotene

Whew! Every time I think I've heard them all, it seems like another one pops up. As you can see, I'm fascinated by this subject. I've been researching it in medical journals for a couple of years now.

You said that you're always full of questions. Well, me too! :D Hey, if you're asking questions, you're learning something, right?
