I've got L5 S1 DDD and sciatica in both legs. But the disc does not seem to be the cause of the sciatica in the left as deduced from MRIs (including a sitting MRI), an EMG and a discogram.
Now for diagnosis purposes, not for pain, I am going to get a nerve block. Has this helped anyone diagnose their pain problems? If so what were the results? Any other feed back?

jchristi,
Yes, I had a nerve block for diagnostic purposes.
It was done with antistesia to pinpoint the cause of the nerve damage. It didn't hurt at first but since they injected the L5-S1 nerve I suffered for a few days after. They come up with the conclusion that the nerve was impinched and causing the chronic radicolapathy in both legs.
Best wishes
Toni

Where was it pinched and have you had anything done to it?
Did you have to catalog/keep a diary of your pain for a week?

jchristi,
The nerve is pinched at the L5-S1,going to both legs.
I have not had any proceedure done at this time. Its a very long surgery. 14 hours.
Most hospitals in my area are not equipped to perform such a surgery.I see a neuro at a university at the end of the month.
I have to have the L5-S1 reconstructed and the instrumentions removed to relieve the nerve.
No I do not keep a journal, its been suggested , but I considered it a waste of time when all the test and x-rays can speak for itself.Bad attitude I know.
