I just have a question for those of you who have had fusions. My daughter went for her second post-op appointment yesterday at 8 weeks post-op from a two level TLIF, laminectomy and disectomy. I was really surprised when her dr said that he would see her in six months. She is doing fantastic. No leg or back pain. She is walking at a pretty fast pace a little over a mile at a time. He also didn't mention any physical therapy at this time. Just a worried mom having to wait six more months to see if she is fused. Is this pretty standard, or is each dr different?
Thanks, cas

Hi Cas, Yes, a 6 month check up is normal. The Dr. may want to see her in a year also. Mine did. I've had fusions three different times. It is not unusal to have more trouble down the road. Lets hope she don't. Good Luck!

It's normal to have your first follow-up visit and then the 2nd one 6 months out if there are no present signs of problems or trouble. My doctor said he'd continue tracking my progress for a couple years. I go for my 1 year check next week.
If she's not having any problems, don't worry. If something comes up, of course call and get in. Otherwise, nothing they can do for the not fusing until they give it time to actually do so.

Thanks for the replies. I'm glad to know this is pretty standard. I will call if she has any problems.
Billie, we do know that she may have additional problems down the road. Her dr is hoping she'll get a lot of years out of this one before she has problems, but you never know.
Rhonni, good luck at your one year check.
