I turn 17 in a month and i noticed about a week ago after i took a shower that i was losing hair. Didnt really think anything of it but whenever i lightly pull my hair now im always finding a couple hairs in my hand, jsut for the heck of it earlier i pulled my eyebrow and i found a couple little hairs. It doesnt really run in the family, my dads 55 and just recently started balding. I gel it most of the time but i cant see that being a factor. Any suggestions?

Hey there
first off, keep in mind that the gene for baldness comes from the mother's side - is there history of male baldness in your mom's family?
second, lots of people lose a bit of hair now and then, including a couple hairs from eyebrows or head. . . ask any girl you know, and you'll hear that they pull a heck of a lot each day when they brush - and not bald.
I wouldn't worry. And if you do end up with early baldness it's not something to freak out about - many many of my male friends started balding in their teens, and it has made no change in their lives.

TRY getting a trim... it could be that you have split ends, which are splitting all the way up to the top of your head, causing them to fall out. Or it could be the new gel you're using... which could be damaging your hair. Try taking a multivitamin daily... chances are you're malnutritioned...

0h yeah... it could also have to do with you working out... as odd as that may sound. If you are underweight... or have just undergone a severe weight fluctuation, that could have cause you're hair to fall out!!!

I highly doubt at the age of 17 your going bald. People are supposed to lose around 200 hairs a day, believe it or not. I also dont think that people go bald in their eye brow areas, and if they do it isnt related to the hair on their heads. If your mothers father is bald, then you may have a chance of going bald later in life, but it's still not 100 percent. If your really that worried, then take an herb called saw palmetto. You can find it at Wal-mart, this herb is a dht blocker, dht build up can cause baldness and prostate cancer. Good luck!

every 7 years you shed..kinda like snakes do.. you will lose ALOT of hair, but don't worry.. you aren't going bald..you are basically losing dead hairs and making room for the new beautiful ones to grow! this happened to me and i went to my doc.. he confirmed this..no worries!

There are a lot of things that can cause hair loss: medications, stress, genetics, poor nutrition ect....
You're very young, so I wouldn't think you have a serious problem. On an average, it is normal to lose 80 to 90 hairs per day. If your hair is long, it will seem that a lot is coming out. Our hair works like the seasons. You will notice more hair loss in the fall time. Old hair sheds in order to make room for the new hair in the spring time.
If you've been perming/coloring/straightening, you may have some damage that may be causing breakage. Give your hair a break, and do some deep conditioning treatments along with regular trims.
I also agree with goldenseal. Young people tend to not eat properly, and you may be lacking some vital nutrients. A healthy body will produce healthy hair.
