I need a second opinion please. I went to a chiro. as a promotional "free exam" deal. It has been over 7 years since I've been to a chiro. and I have known for some time that a few visits were needed to help me feel better again. I don't have any major physical imparement and my main problems are: moderate dizziness, fatigue, mild headaches, neck and upper back pain, and generally feeling "blah" alot of the time. After a series of X-rays, he found cervical sublexation and showed me how my neck has very little curve to it (a healthy neck has a slight "C" curve). Now he wants to see me 3 times a week for 2 weeks, then 2 times a week for 4 weeks, then 1 time a week for who knows how long? I would very much like to follow his recommendation, but I do not have the financial means to do so at approx. $40 per visit. So, my question is this: considering I don't have any major injury from car accident, falling off a ladder, etc. do you feel this is too many visits? I would have thought maybe 1-3 times per month or something would be sufficient. I have my second visit with him tomorrow and would like to address this issue with him, but I have a feeling he will convince me I need to see him so often. I just want to be prepared to tell him something. Thanks.

I had to go to the chiropractor for about the same time as you are talking about, for a curved spine (mine was in lower back). After about $750 worth of visits, my pain was no better, so the doctor says: well I guess we should do an MRI now. So, now I get to spend $1500 more on top of the $750 I already spent so I can get an MRI. Now, I am not saying that chiropractic methods don't work, but I just wish I had done the MRI first. Perhaps you should get a second opinion before you sink all that money into it. Good luck!

I think I would try getting a second opinion from another chiropractor. Just to see if the first one is trustworthy or not. Because you may not even need an MRI if you find a good chiropractor.

I really have nothing good to say about chiropractors at this point. I had a small disc protrusion that the chiropractor caused major damage to. His 1 time treatment turned it into severe nerve compression and a large disc herniation. I will never go near a chiropractor again. I had even brought my MRI results in to show him that I had a small disc protrusion so he knew what he was dealing with. My next MRI after his treatment showed the severe nerve compression. I have now had to have surgery to fix the damage he did. I am doing good now but after months of pain and suffering. Just my two cents.

 Hi, I think that they tell everybody this, I know that they did me, and I went for years and ended up no better for the time and money spent. If you don't have any major problems, and massage therapist would do more for you. If you want to be on the safe side, see a spine specialist. I wish I had years ago. Valley :bouncing:

Heike65,
Talk to your chiro.,most have a lower pay,if you don't have insurance.
The treatment time he's talking about isn't unreal.
I seen a chiro for 7 years to put off lumbar surgery,My chiro was great,he was a MD first.
It came a point that conservative medicine wasn't a cure all.But neither was the surgery.
For a peice of mind ask to have a MRI first to see what the underlying problem is first.A chiro isn't always the answer.
Best wishes

Hi there! I just wanted to let you know that there are some really good chiros out there that know what they are doing. The problem is "finding" a good one! I have been using the same chiro for over 14 years now. She is used to my "normal" symptoms AND notices when something is out of the ordinary. She is the one who recommended my first MRI and also to the surgeon that I used for my laminectomy/diskectomy 8 days ago. She's fantastic and so is my new doc! Just please be very careful using a chiro you're not used to and DEFINITELY don't use one that you have a "bad feeling" about. :nono:
May you be blessed with painfree days...

Sounds like a raquet to me. My ex-husband had a similar experience with a chiropractor where he told him his neck was curving the wrong way and he would fix it but we had to pay like 750.00 up front. Needless to say, he didnt go back. His neck is fine.
I just had a 360 fusion 6 weeks ago. I was going to a chiro. before my surgery. He kept telling me I didnt need surgery, blah, blah, blah...but the truth was my vertebra's were slipping and cracked and no matter how many treatments he did, there was no way he was going to fix it.
Go to a orthopedic doctor that specializes in spines and go from there....
Best of luck.

Thirty-five years ago a chiropractor at a sidewalk sale told me I had scoliosis and I needed treatment before it got worse. I had no money so I did nothing. Fast forward thirty years---I go to an ortho spine specialist for severe stenosis and spondylolisthesis and he does a laminectomy and fusion. But he doesn't even mention scoliosis. Was it a miracle? Or was the chiro a quack?
