View Full Version : LOW FAT EATING VERSUS EXERCISE TV TALE

I saw a neat tv show on diets. Anyone else see it? This man was about 20 lb overweight. He stopped eating hamburgers and pizza and ice cream and started eating salads, etc. for meals. After a week he'd lost 5 lb and he was thrilled! He continued eating the salads, etc., and his body went into "starvation mode." He got weighed in a week and had gained the weight back. After he discovered this his girlfriend happened to dump him and he went and bought a large pizza. For some reason he started eating normally but playing basketball and lifting weights. He continued losing weight doing this and was able to eat occasional fattening foods. The message was: exercise raises the metabolic rate; dieting only works temporarily. Binkie

For me, I found that eating right with natural foods and exercising in combination was best. As an adult, I've maintained a healthy weight that way for about 20 years, after being about 25 pounds overweight.

I believe exercise is a big part in controlling weight. So, what you heard may be right (concerning exercise).
