I asked my eye doctor about it last year and he said it was "nonsense".
Well, it seems like the Iowa Attorney General thinks so too. I saw this on a news website.
This "nonsense" was developed by an OPHTHALMOLOGIST, William H. Bates, who also recommended staring into the sun for a minute every day!!!

Your eye doctor is right. I'm 47, and that BS was around when I was kid. ;) Had a different name then I think.

Yeah, it'll probably be around again in another few years.
I just cracked up when the ophthalmologist recommended staring at the sun every day. They think they know it all.

Are you sure this guy's a doctor?
Yeah, I'm sure. He was an ophthalmologist, but has sinced passed away. A lot of M.D.'s do a wonderful job at screwing people up for the rest of their lives.

I came across this on some website:
"...as a part of his treatment, he used to suggest a certain amount of sun gazing, in which the patient would sway back and forth looking at the sun with his eyes closed, and then occasionally open the eyes for a fraction of a second to allow the full light of the sun to penetrate to the retina. Admittedly, this must be done only momentarily or the retina can be damaged, but when used in moderation it has helped improve eyesight in many."
I have no comments one way or the other, except that perhaps the doc didn't actually advocate staring at the sun.

You know what they call the guy who graduates last in medical school...."Doctor"....just because they have MD after their names doesn't mean a great deal...just my two cents worth...

Natural vision is controversal but from the testimonals I read(you can ignore the ones who overly exaggerate) the relistic ones are experiencing half to one and a half diopter improvement with a few occasionally improving more than that. Its not gonna make you see like a hawk or make severe myopes plano but youll improve or at least stop it from getting worse. Popular testimonals are from pilots with very small amounts of myopia, generally a diopter to a diopter and a half clearing 20/20. They just used the plus lense(reading glasses) for all close work and after 3 to 12 months they cleared 20/20. I am practing vision improvement myself. I do all reading without glasses(am -5 diopters) and I wear -3.25 for the computer, -4.25 for TV and when I go out. Pseudomyopia is the easiest to treat and a large focus on vision improvement

ive been using these exercises for a while, and even after the worst headache/eye pain, 1 session makes everything feel so much better. it might take up to one week to feel less strain, it could also take one 40 min session. my eye doctor (whom i dont like) says my vision hasn't improved, but has worsened at a slower rate than its been going, (my perscription is -6.0) and my double vision is getting alot better. highly recommended. eye doctors usually dont like it because, hello, they want you to buy glasses!
and i've never heard about the whole "look at the sun" thing.

well as long as you slow down your myopia progression, your getting somewhere. By reducing eyestrain, your eyes arent getting as weak. I think once your eyes stop getting worse, they will start improving. You are right about optometrists not believing in eye exercises. Opthomalogists will outright laugh at you and literally shout "this is impossible and absurd!" no supprise, they want your lasik money. Accroding to eye exercise belivers, they consider lasik as a last resort, like if your vision is so bad to begin with that eye exercises isnt making a real dent. or if you are too busy or lazy to exercise your eyes.
