Ok, can anybody answer this for me. I have been on Protonix for about a week and a half. take 40mg 2/day. so far I am having the chest pain and pain right below my sternum all the time. Doesn't matter if I eat or not. Also, a lot of burping. I'm sure my anxiety about this is not helping, going to see my regular Dr. about that. My question is, will this eventually go away or does it sound like my medication is not doing anything. Anybody else have symptoms no matter what you do? I thought you would only get symptoms if ate something you shouldn't, but I have them no matter what. Or will it just take awhile for the medication to start working. I only started having the chest pain a week ago also. Had no idea what it was until this board and I talked to the Dr. about it. At least I know its not a heart attack. I'm trying to stay calm about this, but I am so worried about what this is doing to my already damaged es.

Following up with your doc is a good idea. Yes, if you have acid reflux/GERD/LPR you might want to ask your doc to change your prescription as it does sound like the one you're on isn't working.

Also, if I eat the 'wrong' food(s)....I pay for it regardless of the medication. Sometimes I can get away with moderate amounts of the "forbidden" foods but if I overdo it, the pains come back and I end up popping multitudes of Gaviscon throughout the day and I have to increase my Pepcid Complete doseage from one a day to two a day. And sometimes....even THAT doesn't help. I'm thinking of switching to Prilosec OTC because it worked great for me. It meant I could eat anything I wanted....but then, at that rate, I don't think this GERD would ever go away and I'd be on meds forever.

Hope this helped. Go see your doc ;)

thanks for the info. I am having a much better day today. I found out one of my best friends has been suffering from this for 7 years. Learned more from him than the Dr. :) Anyway, think maybe the medication is starting to work. I still have some pain right below the rib cage but that is a huge improvement from the last few days. Now that I am calming down and not so stressed about this seems to make a big difference. Hoping the days continue to improve!
