I Was having heartburn and my Doctor perscribe Protonix. .I Had an EDG four weeks ago and doctor said he found mild irritation of the esophagus. I Changed my diet and i stop taking the Protonix. I have no more heatburn but Doctor says i should keep taking it to repair the problem. Even if i don't have heartburn could I still have a problem with acid backing up? He would like me to take the protonix for three years until my next EDG examination.Does this sound right?

Well, he's a doctor and to my knowledge no-one on this board is. Therefore, I would go with his advice. In addition if he is doing EDG's then this is his speciality. You could still have acid backing up, since the oesphygus is quite resistant to acid then it maybe that your reflux has reduced to a point that means that you don't get the pain any more. However, you may still get a small amount which won't aid your healing process.
