Hi Nigel, I also had ulner nerve transposition in march 2005, I just started therepy 2 months ago. My left pinky and ring finger are both numb. I still have jabs of pain in my elbow. My Dr. told me that he had to scrape away some of the bone because it was starting to grow around the nerve. Also when I had the emg done it showed the ulner nerve at 9.5. They probably want to do the nerve test to see if the operation had any success. Did your Dr. tell you before the surgery there would be a 50 50 chance of either a full recovery or a claw like hand? My Dr. told me that before the surgery. Are you in therepy Nigel? There are some exercises you can do to help regain some of your muscle back. Don't give up, and best of luck to you. Cheryl

Hi cheryl,

Thanks for your reply this seems not to happen to very many people as your the first to reply.

well with my doctor after 8 weeks he said its not worked cos if it had I would be getting my feeling back in my hand and fingers, so he said he would send me back for a another Nerve conduction test that was over 9 weeks ago and still waiting to hear.

I know if I tap my elbow I still get the shock feeling what runs up to my little finger to which I was told shows I have a trapped nerve still somewhere.

No I'm not in any sort of therepy and none has been offered to me at this time, I know I'm getting a lot of cramping and fingers locking in a V shape which is pretty sore, I remember them saying something to me about my elbow bone being a bit on the big side and said they may have to shave it down but they never did they just moved the nerve.

Any way Cheryl thanks again for repling and wish you a full recovery real soon

Regards Nigel

Sometimes it just doesn't work!! I had mine in 2002, my hands are the same as they were 6 months after the surgery. I am no longer able to hold down a job as I can type only 5 minutes at a time, grasp only a few minutes, have the hand strength of a 5yr old child, can't lift over a lb because of muscle atrophy, developed severe arthritis shortly after the surgery and now RSD is the outcome. So it isn't always successful and sometimes it turns out worse than before the surgery like mine did. For me it was a job related but all the surgeries turned out poorly for one reason or another. After 2yrs of physical therapy with hand specialists they deemed me unable to work with my hands.

They cramp severely but I have not had any lock ups, they cramp bad enough I have a hard time straightening the fingers out tho.
