Hi all,

Sorry its been a while!

My dad was diagnosed 9 months ago with Colon cancer which has spread to his liver and lung. He has just finished his 9th cycle of chemo.... oxaplatin and 5FU. They are leaving him alone for a bit to see how he goes, so cant be all bad! My question is that he has been having minor strokes, 2 since the chemo started (we assume) and 1 today, which is nearly 3 months after the treatment stopped. Has anyone experienced this or known of others???

hope everyone is doing ok.......

Hi fannyann

My mum did not have strokes but she had a whole load of medication to prevent them. She shared a blood disorder with me which meant she was prone to bleeding episodes but also had a dicky ticker/angina. She had to take warfarin too. I cannot remember the name for all the drugs whe was on but they were suppose to counteract against each other to prevent heart attack and stroke.

She had 2 cycles of Xeloda but had bad side affects with huge blood blisters on her palms/fingers & feet. They never could explain why this happened but I suspected it was either because of the blood disorder or the drug combination she was on.

I know this doesnt answer your question but i would suggest that you ask the docs to double check his meds and how they act against each other.

Also, did he have any previous medical condition prior to diagnosis.

Hope ths helps
good luck

Hi Ktee

He stopped his chemo some time ago and at present he is taking nothing other than asprin. His cancer blood count is staying low so they want to leave him for another month to see what happens. He has had some funny turns over the last few months, mainly just feeling dizzy and talking absolute nonsense! Tingling in both hands, not isolated to one side of the body. They gave him a CAT scan and found 2 small scars on his brain which indicated minor strokes....hence the asprin supplied. He suffers with high blood pressure and has done for years, he is taking meds to keep that under control..... I myself suffer with Panic/anxiety attacks and his symptoms sound a lot like mine....... very confusing!

I haven't been posting for a while, moved home....need I say more! How is your husband doing?

Thanks
