View Full Version : Could it all be related to my GERD???

I have never looked through this thread before, but I sure wish I had! I was diagnosed with GERD about 10 years ago. Since I have had symptoms that have gotten progressively worse.....feeling of lump in the throat, LOTS of thick mucus in my throat, shaky feeling as well as fast heart rate after eating (sometimes), sometimes my throat feels....not really painful, but uncomfortable...I don't even want to talk...also bloating and stomach pain. Is it possible this is all related to GERD? My dr. keeps giving me allergy meds even though my blood test showed I had no allergies! Should I go back and ask for gerd meds? I used to take acifex, but stopped taking them. Last night I had bad burning! Even when I stood up the acid kept shooting up my throat! Anyway, any advice would be appreciated!

I would certainly inform your doc that you suspect GERD and have him start you on some medication (an H2-blocker or a PPI). Leaving GERD/acid reflux untreated can lead to more serious conditions. If your doc doesn't follow through, see another doctor, preferable a ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) doctor.

Also keep in mind that PPI's are stronger than H2-blockers and in both categories there are several to choose from. If one does not work for you, another one will.

Come back here and let us know what your doc recommended and how you're doing :)

Hi ssborrow,

I believe you should go to a gastro dr. and see if he will give you something like Protonix. This should help a lot of your problems. It sometimes takes a few weeks to work fully. There are also, Prevacid, Nexium and others. I also sometimes take Pepcid Complete and Zantac in the afternoon, for breakthru heartburn/indigestion.

You do need to take something. If you do not, this can damage your esophagus. If you have not had an upper endoscopy in a few years, you need another one. They can use this procedure to check you out and see if anything else is wrong.

I hope you go back to you Gastro dr. Take care and feel better. Wannabe
