I need some advice. I have severe cervical dysplasia. I'm having my 4th surgery in one week (next Monday...Aug. 22). This is my 4th surgery in one year. I'm scared. I'm scared that like the others...this surgery will not take my problem away. It's causily related to HPV...but my doctors have not given me a treatment for that, which makes me very nervous. I'm also scared b/c more than anything in this world...I want children and now my chances are getting slimmer and slimmer. I am seeing the best OB Oncologist in Town and this last time (my 3rd surgery) he told me that he was 100% sure that I would be cured after that one, only to have my hopes shot down again. I'm scared. I'm very scared. I need someone to contact me who has or is going through the same thing I am. I need some positive words here ladies. I cry everyday. I was wondering if the reason it's not going away is b/c the doctor's haven't treated me for HPV? Does anyone know the answer to that question? I can't nor don't even want to imagine having to have a 5th surgery. I'm just soooooooooo very very scared and would love for someone to write me back please. I need some comforting words and even not for comfort just the truth. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE WRITE ME BACK?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! THANK YOU LADIES

I'm sorry for what you have to go through. I'm 25 years old. I first had an abnormal pap last November. It came back mild dysplasia with high risk HPV. I went in for a biopsy and then i had my LEEP in January. I went for my follow up pap in May and it came back mild dysplasia. when i went in for the colpo the dr. told me that i had 1 lesion on the back of my cervix and that he wanted to wait and take the biopsy when i was put under in the hospital. he knew it was mild dysplasia again so i went in for a LEEP/Laser combo. i go back for my follow up pap in November. (3 months). i'm nervous. but i'm hoping for a normal pap this time. the results from my LEEP showed mild dysplasia again with HPV. so hopefully this time for my pap is will be clear!!

i'm a little confused as to why your Dr. told you that you would lose the baby since you've had 2 leeps. That doesnt make any sense to me. my cousin had a LEEP and then a cone biopsy. She has severe dysplasia and she still had 2 kids. both delivered by C-section. So i'm not really sure why your Dr. would frighten you like that.

I think the only way your DR. can treat you for high risk HPV is through these simple procedures. there is no medication that we can take.

is your 4th surgery another LEEP? try to stay strong. things will work out. keep yourself healthy. HPV and dysplasia is so common in women. it doesnt mean you have cancer. it takes a really long time to get that. thats why its so important to monitor your paps. And it also doesnt mean you can't have kids. maybe you should get a second opinion?

try not to worry. you need to stay positive. exercise, take a daily vitamin, and eat healthy. i hope i'm helping. hang in there!

Thank you so very much SLJ16 for getting back to me. I appreciate it so much! My doc said that b/c I've had A LOT of colpos plus 2 LEEPs and was on my way to the 3rd (laser) this 4th one is laser too. And I've gotten about 3 different opinions all pretty much say the same thing. I'm guessing b/c between the colpos and LEEPs/Lasers the amount of the cervix they have already taken were pretty significant. I'm not going to get my hopes up b/c I don't want them let down again...so I guess we'll see what happens after this 4th one. God I cannot even imagine if I will need a 5th one. OMG!!!!!! But thanks again for getting back to me....I seen a whole lot of people reading but no one ever replied so thank you for not walking by me like I was a homeless on the streets. It is greatly appreciated.

No problem. its a scary thing. and it helps to have people to talk to who have gone through this. Just hang in there. I hope that you only have to go through this, this final time and then its over. as much as it sucks, sometimes you have to think and realize that there are people out there who have it worse than us. you won't know about the whole having kids thing until you have them. And plus, worse case scenario you have your cervix stitched (spelling?). i know someone who has an incompentent cervix, had 2 miscarriages and then finally was able to have a baby. she had a stitch put in. so hang in there and try to be positive. dont beat yourself down...:-)

Just like SLJ16 says HANG IN THERE. I too am going through the same thing. I had an abnormal pap in November 2004 went in for colpo in Feb 2005 had my leep in march 2005. Had my follow up pap after my leep in July 2005 and it came back ACUS abnormal. Now I have to wait until October 2005 to get another repap. All I remember is that in October of last year I had an abnormal pap that came back ACUS then November of last year it came back Mild Dsyplasia. Then after the colpo it came back Moderate dsyplasia. SO what I am getting at I am starting all over again. I have a very strong feeling that in OCT it will come back mild and I am going to start all over again. At this point I feel so numb to it and I'm just waiting it out. There is really nothing we can do except for following up with all of our appointments. We will not get cervical cancer if we get these treatments at least that is what the doctors keep saying. As for having babies my doctor told me all she would have to do is use a stitch and that women have babies every day after having these same treatments.

Just hang in there.

Are you having just a laser, or leep / laser?

I had CIN3, a large area - and just got a CLEAR pap 4 months after my laser / leep. The laser can do wonders so have faith in this 4th time (Im suprised they didnt try it earlier, but its still relatively new)

Good luck!

I have to Leep's and one laser. This 4th one will be done by laser as well. The last laser didn't work...so I guess we'll see what the doc has to say when I go in for my 3 month follow up after Monday's surgery.

Hey ttravers...Just wanted to let you know I'm going through the same thing too. It's an extremely frustrating thing to go through...especially over and over again. I guess as far as treatment for HPV, you're pretty much doing it...just get the procedures and prevent anything worse from happening (that's what they keep telling me). I'm pretty much in the dark with this stuff, too..just going on what I've learned through my own research. I can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone, but I thought I'd lend a hand..it's nice to have someone to talk to who can relate. Hope your surgery went well

As of today, there is no treatment for HPV. But, they are making huge progress for a "cure".

Cervical dysplasia, that's a whole different story. (yes, it's linked to HPV, but, it's "curable" in most cases (most meaning if you go and get your smears and follow treatment for existing dysplasia).

You remember being told to sleep well, eat your veggies, excersice ect, by your mom/dad/grandma growing up? Whole name of the game is our own immune system.
Having HPV (depending on which strain) is not a really big deal, in most cases. Whether or not your body can "fight" it, or keep it at bay is the name of the game.Besides the obvious treatment your doctor recommends of course. But, at your end, there is alot you can do to help your doctor help you. Diet, stress, ect.

Easier said than done, I know. Big time.

But, diet and stress plays an EXTREMELY important role here.

Hope this helps.

With love, lvnglf
