For more years than I can remember, I get to a point where my wrist is in great pain. My neck is always extremely tight and rock hard right at th ebase of my skull. In fact, it feels like my spine gets wider (or thicker) when the stress is high and the pain is happening.
Today for the first time (at least that I can remember), my left wrist is the wrist that is in pain.
I have been to the doctor, and had x-rays and an MRI on the neck and nothing is wrong (at least according to the doctor).
I know that something is wrong, but I do not know where to turn.
Is there a way to relieve the pain/pressure in my neck? Is there a way to reduce the pain in my wrists?
I try to stretch my neck, but it does not feel like it does anything to relieve the pain and pressure.
I do not thin it is carpal tunnel. Although, I am not sure if it is or not.
Any ideas/suggestions would be very welcome. I would be real happy to find any way to help with this pain.
Thanks in advance.

Hello :)
By any chance do you work at an office setting? At a desk? Perhaps garden? Sounds like the classic symptoms of strain. Stress can play a big part of what you are feeling, as it does tense muscles.
I am 20 and already have been diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel.. I know, so young, but computers these days.. Anyways, a doctor can make a clear diagnosis. Perhaps your doctor was mainly looking for bone problems, or might not have been versed in the subject of CT. Along with intense pain in the wrist itself.. You would also feel itchness, numbness and tingling of your first three fingers (thumb, index and middle).
Your wrist is made up of bones called "the carpals".. there are two carpals in your wrist that actually, when traced to the first three fingers, line up perfectly. These two carpals form the "carpal tunnel" - a passage way for nerves, blood vessles, ect. One specific nerve, the median nerve passes through this tunnel and provides sensation to the first three fingers.
When these two carpals, that form the tunnel, get too close, they could, and very often, pinch this median nerve.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply. I have had this wrist pain for over 17 years (it is off and on, mostly off of course).
I have had a wrist specialist (whatever doctor it was), and he said the x-rays looked great (no problems).
I was thinking of getting a 2nd opinion though.

ccualumni,
Just a shot in the dark...but I had your same symptoms with my neck and then had CT symptoms...would wake up screaming in pain....gp sent me for a thyroid test. Thyroid count was extremely high...hypothyroidism....simple blood test, no fasting....The doc said that doctors are seeing a correlation between hypothyroidism and CT. He was right...got it under control and no more pain in wrist and neck like new again. I never mentioned to my doc about my neck, but remember complaining to husband that it was so tight...would feel that it was "locked up" at times!
Other suggestion if you've have your thyroid checked out already is to have a consultation with a neurosurgeon...they diagnose and treat, not just operate. Bring your MRI results with you. There has to be a reason for your pain.
Good luck,
Cathy

I could not agree more.
What is "CT"? Carpal tunnel?
