My friend who has CP is very sick. Somehow during one of his stays in the hospital for surgery he came down with bacterial meningitis. He's so weak and at 16 he weighs under 60 lbs. I haven't heard much else. His sister says he's doing better....I don't know if that means the meningitis is clearing up or just the symptoms. I'm just so worried and anxious about it and am wondering if anyone has heard of this happening.

I don't know what the link is between CP and other sicknesses. My boyfriend has CP but is otherwise very healthy. The only thing I noticed is that you mention your friend, a 16-year-old male, weighs about 60 lbs. My boyfriend is a 25-year-old male, 6 ft. tall from head to toe, and only about 100 lbs.

My friend is home from the hospital, doing better, but still has many symptoms. He'll need to go back and see if he needs his cerebral shunt put back in. He's on a g-tube and is up to 68lbs.

I'm a 20 year old male with CP and I weigh about 150 pounds and I'm 5'3. Even with that being said I do know and/or have known people about my age to be very skinny. I don't really know if there is a relationship between having CP and being under weight. I know it doesn't affect me so maybe it depends on other factors.
I'm glad to hear that your friend is home and gaining weight.
