View Full Version : Afraid I may have colorectal cancer

Hi there, I'm new here, was looking around on the internet about my symptoms and found this site that seems to have some very helpful people. Lately,my stool / toilet paper has gotten some bright red blood on it, and when it's passing through I can actually feel it cutting some kind of protrusion in the wall. I was sure this was just hemmorhoids, for there was no other kind of symptoms. I also helped cure the cutting by just intaking more water, which would make it just maybe scratch it very minorly at the most, so once again i thought it was hemmorhoids. Very lately however, after eating I've been experiencing a bloating feeling, and also a feeling that... I'm not 'done' in the washroom, so to speak, even though I know that I am. This has been goin on for about 2 weeks or so now, and when I looked up these 2 symptoms I came up with this... Now I don't know what to think. I'm going to try and make an appointment for colonoscopy as soon as possible, althought I'm not sure if they just do it on demand, or if there's a waiting period etc.
However, am I just being paranoind or could this really be something serious ? And if so, with symptoms like these would it be a bit into it's growth, or still fairly new ? Any answers would be appreciated... I might just be worrying for nothing but I can't help it now.

Thanks,

Aaron

The feeling that you aren't done yet can certainly be a sign of a blockage and should be checked out. If you can feel the 'cutting' abrasion then it would be low down and a doctor may be able to feel what it is by manual examination (oof, uhh ;) ). A hemmerhoid has a smooth texture, a tumour has a rougher texture. Either way if the doc feels an obstruction he/she would be inclined to order a colonoscopy.

If he suggests a sigmoidiscope, push for the colonoscopy anyway. The sig only sees as far as the top of the rectum and is also much more uncomfortable than a colonoscopy(at least in my experience) The c'scope often goes all the way to the appendix so it sees the entire colon. You can state that since you are going to have to prep anyway you'd like the c'scope for peace of mind, especially if you are over 30 or have a history of cancer in your family.
It could be a large hemmerhoid in which case you may require surgery anyway but you have to know for sure. But don't sweat it too much until you see the doctor(s).

They could be pollips in the colon. Don't delay on going to the dr. My dad had the same thing and the dr was able to successfully remove the section of his colon where the pollips continued to grow. We found out after the surgery that they was cancerous. Since it was caught early enough my dad did not have to have any further treatment. My mother waited until her colon ruptured and now its too late. With treatment she may only have another 2 years (she is only 66). She ignored her symptons. Which sound similar to yours. Please don't wait and don't put it off. It is better to be safe than sorry. I don't mean to scare you but if it is cancer the earlier it is caught the easier it is to treat. Take care and keep in touch.

Hi again there, thanks for the kinds words & advice. Sorry about your mom Sue =(. My grandfather also suffered the same fate (ignored it) and passed away at 69, very similar to her situation. I'll definitely look into these pollips (never really heard of them before) and to Jay thanks for the info about the 2 kinds of scopes. I went to the doctor a couple days ago and he said he could see no hemmorhoid but prescribed me cream anyway... It's been really on/off the feelings/bloating comes and goes randomly, so I dont think the cream is helping at all. Actually yesterday I was feeling fine and was thinking of skipping putting it on, I did anyway and that only seemed to make the feelings come back within minutes (something to do with aggravating it like that...?). He said if within a week I don't get better, to go back and get a seigmodoscope done. Now I definitely know to ask for the colonoscopy just so we may catch *anything* that may be there. Just very confused and annoyed right now since nothing is helping and I have no idea what's going on till the scoping... Thanks again and I'll make sure to update once I know more.

Make sure you tell the doc about your grandfather. Family history of cancer is a ticket to greater testing.

yeah "H" cream can make one feel a need when the rectum is empty sometimes but it usually passes quickly.
