I've been taking pain meds, aceta-hydrocod probably 5 times a week for 8 months. No more than one pill. I also have been gaining weight but still "very" active, walk etc. Perhaps it lowers the metabolism???

Unsure which board to post this query on.
Thanks !

Hi,
I checked the side effects of that med and weight gain is not listed. You can check this and any other med by going to http://medlineplus.gov/ and clicking on drug information.

Have you had your thyroid hormone levels checked? Weight gain is a common symptom of an underactive thyroid.

Best wishes,
Julie

Chanzee,

There are a number of websites that will give you information about specific drugs. In my own experience, sometimes it isn't just one drug you're taking, but the combination of the new drug with the others you may already be taking.

Check out a list of pharm information websites at www.diagKNOWsis.org

Many medications on the market interfere with peripherial conversion of thyroid hormones (T3 to T4) slowing metabolism. This is probably what is causing your weight gain.
