I am 29 and have never really had regular periods but now they seem to have stopped all together. I have gotten acne which I never really had a problem with before. Should I talk to someone about this?

How long has it been since your last one? Are you going thru a lot of stress? Any changes in medications your taking? Are u sure your not pregnant. I too am 29 and when i was 25 my period stopped for 9 months, but i still got pms every month, acne, bloating, etc, but i never bled! i got a lot of testing done and they tried all these things on me...its a long story...if u want to hear it, u can, but the jest is...after 6 months of no period i went to the dr and it took them 3 months to get me going again.
they just said, sometimes these things just happen. What??? i thought that was a lame answer.

I would be interested to know what type of treatment they did with you and if it has helped regulate your pms.

Well, I've always been irregular, like u, i would skip weeks, months and my pms has always been all over the place. Since I was getting pms, but not bleeding, after 6 months, i thought maybe i had a tumor blocking the way. So I went to the dr and they did all kinds of tests of me, I dont remember them all, but a pap, tested my blood, tested my thyroid. Nothing was wrong. So they put me on some pills (i dont remember what they were) and i was to take them for a time frame, like 2 weeks i think and they said on day 15 i would start. So as time comes closerr, i feel pms-y and day 15 comes and NOTHING! So I go back, by this time its about 8 months without a period. So, they put me on pure Estrogen pills for 40 days straight! I kid you not, this was about the worse time in my life. I was crying everyday, screaming, irritable, and very suicidal. I had the appetite of a pregnant woman and put on 10 lbs in a month and I normally dont gain weight easy. (Once I was driving on the freeway and the radio in my car went out, I started crying soooo hard I couldnt even drive. I had to pull over and i was crying like mad forever. I had to drive back home and cancel whatever it was I was going to, I dont remember) Stuff like that happened like everyday.
Anyways I did start in 40 days. They put me on the pill and my periods became regular and my pms went away, and my complexion has never been so beautiful. but after about 3 months, I couldnt take it...the depresssion was just as bad and I was gaining more weight. My sis said to try another pill with less estrogen, but for fear of harming myself, I said, forget it, I'll take the pms and the irregular periods.
It's been like 2-3 yrs since i went off the pill and my periods have been almost always regular, i'm amazed! I still get pms, but i think as i get older (i'm 29) its getting somewhat better, but some months are cool, some months, i cant even bear it.
So, the pill is great for regulating periods, most my friends are on it just for that reason. But its not for everyone; i'm prone to depression and i dont care if they have lower dose super pills (my sis encourages me to get on them), but she doesnt experience the depression I do and doesnt understand. But I know me and its not worth my life.
Hope I answered your question somewhere in there :D . In fact, I JUST started while writing this, right on time too.
BTW, I know one more thing that makes u get your period. If u want to know, let me know, its kind of gross, but it works (its nothing bad), but it has to do with pheromones. Are you still awake?.. sorry this is soooo long. Take care!

Your story has some good information. I too am prone to depression and would not want to do anything to rock the boat. Did the regular pill make you weirded out or just the estrogen?

How can you start your period? I am for sure not pregnant. My husband had a vasectomy.

it could be due to severe weight loss or being under weight, osteoporosis... or not getting the right amount of nutrition. I had the same problem.. because I'm skinny and I don't eat dairy or meat (calcium helps women get their period)... then I started eating green leafy veggies (which supply calcium), and started taking multivitamins. I also started eating healthier... I didn't gain weight, but I got my period a month ago... and I currently have it now:) Since you mentioned acne.. I have a feeling this is due to your diet... however, it could be a much more serious issue.. I suggest going to a doctor. Or... you could be pregnent;)

Hey Goldenseal, I'm a skinny, non-dairy eating vegetarian too!
My sister used to tell me its cause I was too skinny, I was like 120-125lbs, (5'5) when this happened-missed my period for 9 months.
Now I'm 110 lbs and am getting my periods regularly for the past couple yrs. (yes I lost the estrogen pill lbs, and than some). I take prenatal vitamins to make up for what I dont get in meat/dairy and that has helped me tremedously (I'm not recommending this, but it worked for me is all). But yes, it could be due to being underweight or if your very athletic, this can cause you to miss periods. I work out 4-6 times a week, like 45-60 minutes, but the drs dont consider that super athletic, they mean like hours a day.
My depression continued BAD when I was just on the birth control pill and my mood swings were still out of control :dizzy: . I TOLD the drs, I'm prone to depression and they said, oh dont worry, this is a low dose....My lowest point came when I got out my father's gun, laid on the ground, and put the barrel in my mouth.... I know thats sick and I have gotten help for my depression and I will never go on the pill again. My sister swears she is on the greatest pill, its the latest and lowest dose one. It works for some people. I'll pass. :nono:
jakcpk, you never mentioned, how long has it been since your period? You can try the pill, if it makes u nutty, toss them.

It has been about 3 months since my period. I'm not overly skinny and I do eat a lot of green leafy veggies. I also eat a skinless boneless chicken breast every single day. Does anyone have a good experience with the pill or just bad? I am curious to know if it ever helped someone.

My sister swears by the pill and at least 6 friends off the top of my head take it and love it. Regulates your period, takes away pms, etc. Ask your gyno about the lowest dose estogen pill. My sis (who was very moody on her former pill) says she'e perfectly fine on this new one shes on and says she's even lost weight (I forgot what its called). Everyone says, you have to try a few to find the one thats right for you. So, go to your gyno, tell her youre prone to depression so u need the lowest dose possible.
Also, back in the day, skipping 3 months wasnt that unusual for me. Are you under a lot of stress? Are you experiencing heavydepression now? That'll do it.
Do you live/work with females. I found my co-workers, sister and I all get ours around the same time. Its cause your body releases pheramones that affects others (supossedly guys are subconsciously more attracted to you at this time cause of this..I've found this true....weird, huh? especially since I feel my ugliest on my period!) Whenever I'm a tad late and want to start my period, I hang around menstruating females. Don't gross out....but me and my sis have a joke, "I need to sniff your pad". I'll stand next to her or her me when her or I are menstruating (b4 she got on the pill) and inhale, not sniff, but inhale and just stand around each other for a while. Guess what? The last couple times we did that, she started the next day, and when I did it, I started the same day. I've told some friends, some laugh, some think I'm a weirdo. hey, desperate times call for desperate measures. hope I didn't gross everyone out. Good luck to you.

Hey! I know how frustrating this can be!

Last year, when I was 19, my period stopped for almost half a year. After reassuring my parents and gyno I wasn't pregnent they began testing. They tested EVERYTHING, and it all kept coming up normal. Finally my gyno ordered some hormone blood work that they don't ususally order on such young patients. It tunred out that the hormones that controlled mensturation were completely surpressed!! It was if my body had gone into peri menopause early. The doctors were very surprised as this doesn't happen too often.

If you are still having trouble ask for hormone blood work! Best of luck!

well i went to the doc for blood tests and everything came back normal? if i cut down on the excercising and take the pill, would it induce my period?

I really dont know. I cut back on exercising and started eating more fatty foods and that didnt help me, just made me fat with no period. I cant say. Once they induced my period, than they put me on the pill to keep it going/regulate me. All my tests were normal too.
You just have to discuss this with your dr and see what s/he says and/or wait and see if you start sson. I'm not a dr, all I can say is what happened to me. I wish you well!

i went to the doctor and she prescribed me birth control. She said i will get my period in 22 days. She also told me i was too skinny 5'5 and 114 pounds. I have something called runner's amenorrhea. The doc said they would like me to ease up on the workouts and get to 128 pounds at the least. {removed}
