My dad had a PSA of 140! His enlarged prostate caused acute renal failure. We almost lost him, but they think he is going to be ok. This happened on Sunday, less than 5 days from his biopsy. They told us yesterday that it is cancer. They will meet with the specialist today to discuss the cancer. What should I expect? Is the high PSA a warning sign of an aggressive cancer? He is 67.

OK, here is the latest. The doctor said that all of the biopsy samples were cancerous. On the gleason scale, a few of the numbers were 7's, but most were 9's and 10's. I guess that is bad news. He did say that my dad had a PSA on file from 2 years ago that was a 2. Do you think this is good news about the previous PSA # or does the fact that this is an aggressive cancer cancel that out. They are going to start him on hormone therapy until he is healthy enough to do a bone scan.

They are waiting on the bone scan because he is still in ICU at the hospital. I guess he isn't strong enough yet to do it. They did a head CT and it came back negative so it hasn't spread to his brain. If it has spread to the bones or other organs, what type of treatment do you think he will undergo and is it possible to halt the progression of the cancer for a considerable amount of time?
