View Full Version : Ugh... How to spike / style hair successfully?

Hmm ok. My hair is wavy. And strong. I can fix that problem with flat ironing right? Now, i have tried all the methods I know of but I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I tried gel, wax, heck I tried GEL AND WAX! I tried with dry hair, slightly humid hair, wet hair. I tried in the morning, in the afternoon, I tried when I come right outta the shower. I tried using the air blower or not.

I came to the conclusion that I do something wrong and/or I don't know how to spike/style my hair. The way I want my hair to look like is when I come out of the shower, and shake it a LITTLE with the towel ( to get out the surplus of water ) and then I just pull it up and it looks so darn cool and spiky. I can do the same when it rains alot, hehe, i like how it looks. But I can't recreate it. And normal water just evaporates away, so it wont stay that way. When I use too much gel it just gets super curly and doesn't stay up ( too heavy? o.0 )
With wax, it looks great the first 5 mins, then for some reason it starts going down a bit, or moving a bit, and its all ruined =/

So I look at all these people with PERFECT, ALIGNED ( doesnt need to be ) hair spikes and they can do whatever they want with it etc., and I ask you guys:
What is your procedure to style your hair and keep it like that?

PS.: Note that I do use the strongest gel. Note that the spikes I'm reffering too isn't those extravagant punk 1 meter long spikes.
My hair is currently and usually between 2 and 5 centimeters long. ( 1 inch - ? ) When I ask for a procedure, it's because I seriously think I'm doing something wrong. Or maybe there's an order I should follow, like usign air blower or stuff like that..

Try applying a styling product when your hair is dry... (The weight of the water is probably what is weighing your hair down, - wax works better on dry hair) You can also use Joico ICE Spiker gel, it comes is cool colors (that wash out)and also in a clear formula for drastic spikes! If you like the WET look, you can mix some pomade in with the ICE Spiker...

Have you tried using straighteners? Use them to pull the hair upwards and then apply your products afterwards... you could try hair spray too?

i find that fibre putty works best, but i have fairly long hair in terms of spikability

Fibre Putty is good if you want your hair to have the ''messed up'' look. In my opinion, its not great for defined spikes...

There's loads out there though, just go try some...
