I recently had a blood test and the results for the liver were- AST (SGOT) 98. The normal is supposed to be between 0-40.
The ALT (SGPT) was normal. Does anyone know what would cause that high of results? I only drink once in a while. I do workout consistently and take a fish oil, multivitamin, whey protein, and cee. I'm wondering if the protein and creatine is causing an overload. Any ideas?

Pumaz:

Elevated liver enzymes can be from a ton of different things.. have you recently had the flu or a virus? Have you taken any over the counter medications or antibiotics? Have you been stressed out more than usual? All of the above can elevate enzymes. I wouldn't worry but I would ask your doc for a retest and try not to work out before the test. Could be that all the exercise you are doing is causing the elevation. Chances are, if it is still raised, your doc will want to do an ultrasound on your liver- this is to check for any abnormalities and the textures of your liver. Could be that you have a fatty liver which will definitely raise enzymes. Did your doc say he would do a retest?

Also, you might want to visit the liver disorder forum here and post your questions and concerns. There are a lot of people going through the same thing and might be able to help. I had enzymes in the 1,000's and was freaked out! Turned out to be Mono, so don't stress and just go back to the doc when you can. Good luck and keep me posted.

Cholesterol lowering medications (statins) can/will cause problems with the liver.
