I was a cigar smoker that quit about 18 months ago. Before I actually quit I was down to about half a cigar a day. I started when I was 17:(. It was off and on. I would quit smoking then start up again. Sometimes I inhaled cigar smoke. How stupid! I know..maybe I thought I was inhaling and just drawing it in..inhaling a cigar can be rather harsh.:( But never the less I was an off and on smoker for a while.

I am still concerned about possible long term effects. I have been taking antioxidants on a fairly regular basis to help my body heal. Is there anything specific I should be taking? Thanks for your responses in advance..

Jim,

First of all congratulations on quitting!!! :bouncing: You know I really don’t know the long term affects of inhaling the cigars. I did smoke them nasty things as well years ago and found myself inhaling them too because I was using them to cut back on ciggs and stared that instead. I also did that with pipe smoking too. I am unsure what can be done or what long term affects there may be but the important thing is that you quit. Now your body does have a chance to go in and heal some if not all of it within time. I would be happier that you quit and kept it from further damaging you and others any further.

Keep it up Jim and thanks for sharing your story.

John

hI jIM--

CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU FOR QUITTING SMOKING! THAT'S GREAT! :)

I'm trying to do all the right things now too, 23 months after quitting my 30+ year smoking habit. You're on the right track with the anti-oxidants, that's what I'm doing too. I take vitamin E, CoQ-10, vita C, garlic, zinc, Selenium, among a few others. Oh, and I drink a cup or two of Green Tea every day, which is high in antioxidants. EAT LOTS OF FRESH FRUITS AND VEGGIES, I try to get 6 or more servings a day. (1/2 cup is a serving)

Walking/jogging, lots of exercise is good for your lungs too. Draw in all those deep breaths. Of course if you live in a smoggy area, which so many of us do these days, well...don't know what to tell you. Get a treadmill...I love mine. :)
Best wishes for renewed health and vitality...
Deda :)

Thanks for the responses:) Yeah I started off in high school at the junior prom because I thought it was cool. I would then smoke them off and on. I would quit for a while and then start up..and when I was in college I didn't smoke in the winter time.. When I mostly did it when the weather was nice..it was more of a social thing I very rarely smoke more than one in a day. I smoked off and off after I graduated from college. One time I started back up to lose a little weight..talk about poor reasoning:( I have been tobacco free for over a year now, and even then, I was down to half a one per day for a number of months. I don't know why i did it.It makes me sick now that I abused my body that way:(

Hey Pittman,

At least you didn't smoke as long, (or as much) as most of the rest of us! Wow, a year not smoking is wonderful, and I'm sure you will never touch another one again.

Way to go!
Deda :)
