For the last week or so, I have had an awful taste in my mouth. I think its coming from the back of my throat and it tastes like mucous, but a bit different. Its hard to explain the taste exactly but it sort of tastes a bit like chlorinated water, with a mucous taste aswell (if that makes any sense). I don't have a sore throat or any other symptoms. Does anyone know what this is??

It's more than likely from your tonsils. I get that on occasion. There are many of us on the forum who have tonsil stones or gunk from in there....we have various methods to clean them out...
Have you looked at the back of your throat with a flashlight?

I had a look at the back of my throat with a torch (or flashlight as you call them in the US) and I couldn't see anything unusual. My tonsils are not swollen and my throat isn't sore but there is yellowish mucous coming from the back of my throat. I have had tonsilitis a few times before.

Hi M. Captain, The yellowish mucous seems like it may indicate some post nasal drip.
Any allergies at all? You could try a decongestant to see if that helps. Or even just a simple saline nose spray. Just a thought.

I would agree that it would be sinus....could be an infection tho. decongestant will help open the sinuses and help with drainage.
Definitely, if it continues....see a doc.
Hope it doesn't last long.

Well its now Saturday and the awful taste is still in my mouth, although its a bit different now. I woke up yesterday morning (Friday) with the same taste in my mouth, only it was worse this time and there was a lot more mucous coming from the back of my throat. The mucous was thicker this time aswell and still a yellowish colour. My throat was a bit itchy throughout the day but nothing too bad. Today I woke up with the same taste and thick yellow mucous in my throat and as the day went on, my throat starting getting sore. I'm also developing a dry cough.

Sounds like a sinus infection to me. Do you have a headache at all? What about a temperature?

I don't have a temperature but I did have a headache on Friday. My head also feels heavy.

Any pain in your face, where your sinuses are? IT could be a snius infection, even without a fever. The stuff draining down your throat can cause the sore throat. With the drainage, headache & heavy-headed feeeling, sinuses are the most likely culprit. And the cough could all be part of it, because of the irritated throat. If you are no better by Monday, you might want to have a doctor check you out. If it's a sinus infection, they can treat it easily.
