Are there any alternative cure for yeast infections? I have read some post here stated that OTC medicines and cremes for yeast infection gave them relief for certain times but not totally a cure. Your informations can help a lot to me.

I found out THE HARD WAY that I was allergic to one of the creams they sell. Itching to death from the inside is a bad way to die, but that's what it felt like was about to happen to me!

Anyway, I can relate to your desire to find an alternative to OTC creams. But all the books and sources I consulted on this idea, pretty much recommend the creams. There was one suggestion of repeated douching with a vinegar/water mix (2 Tbs vinegar to a quart of water) but most feel that this could in fact increase your chance of an infection deeper in your reproductive tract.

Yeast infections are preventible with diet. I used to get them all the time when I was a vegetarian. Now that I do low carb, I have effectively taken away the yeasty's favorite food source: sugar, fruit and things like breads, corn, grains, potatoes, rice which all turn to glucose inside of you anyway, and now they have no hospitible environment in me. If I cheat, the thing that sends me back to my diet in a flash is the sense that I could be getting another yeast invasion. Within a day of being back on low carb, the feeling is gone.

I also work hard not to ever need antibiotics since they set you up for yeast infections by killing the rival bacteria that keep them in balance.

Probiotics are the good bacteria in the body that usually keep yeast in check. YOu can get supplements at the drugstore, or eat yougart regularly.

It really depends on how bad the yeast infection is. I usually have to use the capsules for 10 days.If your making the capsules yourself make sure you use a pharmacutical grade of boric acid.I have a prescription from my doctor and the drugstore makes them up for me.
I had constant yeast infection the Monisate Creme did not clear it up nor did prescription meds. Finally my GYN suggested the Boric Acid which really does work. There are no health risks with this that I am aware of. If you do a search online you will find many articles that suggest using Boric Acid capsules for this Yeast problem.

By the way Gardenandcats, I have just slight yeast infection, do you have an idea how many days should I use boric acid? Have you tried diflucan? What was your observation with diflucan? If I'll take diflucan, how many days should I take it? Is it okay if I'll use diflucan together with boric acid? I went to different gynecologists but their prescribed medicines didn't work so I think of a home treatment.
Thanks a lot!

I have used diflucan manytimes and I have used it two weeks at a time and still did not clear up the yeast for me. Also have tried Nystatin and Ketoconozal. My docs where stumped that the Diflucan didn't work.Sometimes it does clear it up but not usually. I do use diflucan along with the Boric acid capsules. But lately I have just been using the Boric acid as the diflucan is not working. And I hate to take this as it is such a harsh med on the liver.
When you are just getting a yeast infection sometimes just a few days of using the boric acid stops it before it gets really bad.

Another thing to try is acidophilus pills sold at the vitamin store:

Many people take acidophilus to treat and prevent digestive disorders, vaginal infections, and other illnesses. As it boosts benign and suppresses destructive bacteria, acidophilus allows the body to maintain a healthy bacterial balance. Acidophilus is often recommended as a safeguard during antibiotic therapy, which can suppress beneficial bacteria and trigger the growth of yeast infections.

Yogurt sometimes doesn't have enough of the right bacteria.

For treating and preventing vaginal yeast infections caused by Candida, acidophilus may be particularly effective. A 2000 study in the International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics attributed the increase in recurring vaginal candidiasis worldwide to growing antibiotic resistance as well as to a lack of sufficient Lactobacilli in many women.

I took Acidolphilus for years along with garlic capsules as these both are suppsed to help with yeast. I can't say that either helped any.
