I do not have a history of impared hearing but whenever their is an electonic device running which does not produce noise (such as a computer moniter or a muted tv), i always start hearing a ringing noise in both ears. The noise then goes away if i turn the device off. I was just wondering what is causing this and if it is a health related issue.

Hey,
Dont worry mate, seems to me like youv'e got super good hearing!!
TV's, Monitors, power supplies etc all produce a very high frequency noise, which to most people is unaudiable. If your hearing these then you must have good hearing.

If you where hearing a ringing, or the sound you described, in a room with no external noise, no TV's, muted or otherwise, then yes that would be tinnitus.

From what you've described you've got nothing to worry about.

Cheers,
Shaun

I agree with the first reply, it's likely just very good hearing. I get the same thing. I can hear the electric hum of a muted TV from rooms away if there's not much other background noise.
