Good article Jennita. From reading some of your posts you seem to have a very accurate view on these drugs and the whole mental health field as a whole. This medical field is pretty bizarre in my opinion as it is not based on reality but instead conjecture. I don't understand it. Soarer

I think I understand it, at least from the money angle, although I'm sure there are actually people in the profession who do want to really help people but the conjecture you speak of has gotten a bit out of hand and dangerous. At least there is alot of information with the internet these days to help guide people, glad you enjoyed the article!

Hey, Jennita! I hope to be one of those people in the psychiatric industry who genuinely wants to help cure mental illness and carefully diagnose the patient before handing out a prescription for medication that they might not need. I want to be a neuropsychiatrist (I'm just beginning my freshman year of college and majoring in neuroscience), and I hope that one day, I can create better medications, or better yet, an actual brain diagnostic test to prove that a person actually has the disorder- I think that will completely eliminate the non-believers who think that psychiatric illnesses aren't of a biological nature (Tom Cruise!)... That's what I like about you: you don't deny that mental illness has a biological background- you just want to inform people that there are natural alternatives out there to treat the disorders, but you don't go around saying that mental illness and psychiatry aren't real... Oh, and Soarer, just because the psychiatric field has become lax in questioning whether or not a person really has a disorder, and instead, giving them a medication for every minor symptom, mental illnesses are reality. As someone who has struggled for 18 years with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and panic attacks, I can say first-hand that each tormenting day that I live through isn't purely conjecture...

Well, there are some aspects as you know that I feel are not real in psychiatry like certain things like shyness is a biological disorder/medical condtion and automatically needs powerful medication! It would be nice if they'd just target the serious stuff like bi-polar and schizophrenia more in regards to finding treatments and actual cures, so it's good to hear there will be someone like you out there one day to perhaps do that! :)
Good luck to you!!!! :bouncing:

I agree that shyness isn't a biological problem- it's only a problem if there's social anxiety (and I only define this as having a panic attack while being around people). Personally, I feel that schizophrenia, bipolar disorder/major depression, and OCD are the most debilitating- we have the worst psychotic, mood, and anxiety disorder right there. Hopefully, we can find a cure for the diseases that actually do have a biological basis, and stop people from thinking that being "shy" or "sad" means that they have a mental illness!

Thanks Jennita, you are a dear for mentioning the seriousness of Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia. I appreciate more than you know the acknowledgement of these disorders as real diseases - just of the brain rather than the pancreas or liver, etc....
My blood pressue is back to normal and I apologize if I was majorly less than friendly over on the other board...
Peace?

Sure thing, Peace  and no matter what I've ever posted in anger (yeah, I lose it too sometimes) towards the medical establishment about these things, I do feel very sorry for the actual people going through these problems and will be very grateful if someday a real, permanant cure is found......GatsbyLuvr might just get the ball rolling! :bouncing:

LOL! I'll certainly try my best, if MY mental problems don't stop me from worrying about failing college and not getting into medical school! Stupid OCD- just wait until I overcome you and cure you for sure, destroying you, just like you've destroyed my life for sooo many years! And, don't worry, Ruth, I'll do the same thing for bipolar disorder, especially mania! ;)
