I got some time bacteria or virus from kissing a girl. My throat cuture came back negative for any type of bacteria. It is my understanding I still could have some sort of bacteria even though my throat culture came back negative. I still have a sore throat after 10 days.
My doctor still prescribed antibiotics. Antibiotics of course are only for a bacteria. Even though my throad culture came back negative, we don't know for sure what I have.
I spoke to another doctor and he said I probably have a virus.
I do not want to take antibiotics unnecessarily.
Any advice would be appreciated.
I have never had a sore throat for more than 2-3 days. Every time it turned into a cold. I have had this one for almost 11 days. This is why I am concerned. Is it normal to have a sore throat this long without it being serious? At what point do I need to be concerned?
What is the chance for a false negative for a throat culture? When should I take a chance with the antibiotics?
