View Full Version : Glucophage for children?

Has anyone had experience with glucophage for children? My daughter has been diagnosed with MODY (mature onset diabetes of the young). Her last A1c was 6.9. She is almost 12, very active and not overweight. With the elevated A1C her Dr. wants to start treatment. Her options are oral glucophage or a once a day injection of Lantus. He said the glucophage study was recent but showing it works in children. Anyone else using this for their kids?
Thanks

What kind of diet has your child been on? What does she eat over the course of an average day? Although MODY is genetic, it can be treated the same way as type 2 diabetes. Pills and insulin may be entirely unnecessary.

I'm 15 (type 2 Diabetes) and I've been taking glucophase since I was 14. I'm able to keep my blood sugar very stable (90-130) with just the medicine and very well with activity and the medicine. I did notice that high doses caused my stomach to be upset, although it was mild. I hope this helps.
