jodig28 08-19-2005, 10:38 PM I am actually looking for the answer to this question as well. I have had abnormal paps and I am awaiting the results of the latest. I am on the pill, so my periods have always been the same, 5 days, but now, it's just one or two days of dark brown like you are describing. Good Luck to you, and hopefully we both get an answer :)
Jodi
lissaboo 08-19-2005, 11:39 PM i hope we both get an answer this is driving me nuts
texan1771 08-22-2005, 11:16 AM I am currently undergoing treatment for cervical cancer I am stage 1b2,this is the most awful thing ANYONE can endure but a positive attitutude I must keep  Anyways I have laways had irregular peroids my whole life sometimes skipping almost a year,I knew that was just me .
On April 25,2005 the bottom fell out and I was bleeding VERY VERY heavily to the point I thought I was hemmreging for the vagina I called my dr. dhr referred me to a gyno she did a ultrasound (the tube kind) then a bunch of lab work.....and she put me on promotrian (something like that) and the bleeding subsided but NEVER really stopped so I called the gyno back and I told her the bleeding had never stopped so she scheduled me for a d&C.when I awoke from the d&C she informed she did not like the way things looked so she also peformed some biopsys inside my vagina.......
Well the results came back positive for cervical cancer,I immedietly went for a second opinion at md anderson in Houston Texas and have been going there ever since. I am done with the 5 chemos and 5 weeks of radition and 1 week of internal radition it sucked but they think its about gone I have one more week of the internal radition and God willing Ill be cured of this cancer.
Now I can tell you what to look for as far as when to panic and seek help immedietly
1)Brownish disharge with a strong odor
2) heavy bleeding or lack of it
3)Painful after sex
the brownish discharge is the strongest tell tell sign you have it go to the dr
Grated cervical cancer is the slowest growing/spreading cancer but dont sweep it under the rug either let us know your status on this Ill be praying its ok Be strong!!!!
lissaboo 08-23-2005, 06:10 PM what kinda pain you have after sex where does it hurt
texan1771 08-24-2005, 08:43 AM Hey lissa its bad burning stabbing pains please let me know how you ar doing surely you have had a pap and a pelvic exam by now I was lack in going every year and now I am paining the piper its no fun I wish you luck let me know if you have any questions take care
winniefoster 08-26-2005, 12:54 AM hey you said brownish discharge is the most important symptom, i have this right now, usually it's at the BEGINNING of my period, like a couple days before i get my actual period i have a couple days of brownish discharge - it's so light that i don't have to wear a pad. is this a symptom? everything about my period is normal, and the brownish discharge doesn't occur, sometimes my period is perfect normal. it's been like this for the past couple years maybe more...is this normal? or a sign of cancer? i'm really scared.. thanks!
lissaboo 08-26-2005, 02:00 AM ok right up above my pelvic bone its real knotty and im having sharp pains but im not having these pains after sex that you described i went to doc yesterday but didnt get my exam they said to come back the 15th and they will do it but could yall tell me what this sharp pain is im a lil worried
texan1771 08-28-2005, 01:45 PM To answer about the discharge a tell tale sign the brown stuff has a bad odor
winniefoster 08-29-2005, 12:14 AM i don't really smell anything too bad, so that means the brownish discharge is normal?
texan1771 08-30-2005, 09:09 AM well if the brown discharge continues I would go see my gyno that is the first symptom of mine and the first question my onocologist asked about... good luck
hrtofluv 08-30-2005, 04:12 PM I asked my gyn about spotting brown prior to my periods and she said that it was low progesterone that causes the spotting. Now that was late last year. The brown color means it's old blood (been sitting around longer) versus red is new blood.
This year it has progressed to more brown the first 2 days of the period than to the red then back to brown again. And I do notice an odd odor. But I had a normal pap in Feb - wouldn't this have detected something then? I am having alot of pains too - all the time and worse with sex. Bleeding/spotting during sex and sometimes when I have a bm I bleed, but it stops within 5 minutes or so.
Should I make a new appt and insist on another pap?
notorious b 08-31-2005, 12:25 PM You have to remember that paps aren't 100% guaranteed to find any dysplasia. Since they only take such a small swipe of your cervix, they can't promise that you are fine or that something is wrong. That is why they do the colposcopy, where they are able to see where the abnormal cells actually are.
Just because you have a "clear" pap, it doesn't mean you don't have any dysplasia. It just means that there wasn't any dysplasia in the sample they took.
texan1771 08-31-2005, 08:15 PM Also insist on a pelvic exam hrto your symptoms are just like mine please dont wait.....let me know
