I just went for my annual pap test and was told by the physician's assistant who examined me that I have a polyp on my cervix. I hope that's not bad! She asked if anyone ever told me that there's one there and I said no. I had a pap test done last April and my doctor who did it then didn't mention it. Maybe it wasn't there then? You'd think he'd mention it, wouldn't he? That's what leads me to believe that it developed within the last year. My test last year came back okay, and now I have to wait for the results of this one. The possibility of cancer keeps running through my head. I know, probably the chances of it showing up are low, but they're there just the same. I'm a natural worrier and if there's just a 1 in a million chance of getting something, I most likely will worry about it. I know I probably should have asked the PA-C my questions, but I was just sort of in shock at the time. I guess I never think that anything can go wrong with my health, but now that she's told me about the growth, all sorts of things are running through my head. I didn't even think to ask how many days it would take to get the results back. Also, I was thinking, if there's a polyp there, would they want to remove it sometime even if things are okay otherwise? I just didn't know if it might continue to grow and/or if it would cause problems even if not cancerous. Thanks for any help. I feel really sad now and yesterday when I got out of there I really felt sick to my stomach. I'm trying not to worry, but it's so hard not to.

I was told i had a polyp about 5 years ago and because it did not cause me any problems i decided to leave well alone, when i had my smear test in may last year the doctor said it had grown from being the size of my little finger nail to the size of my thumb nail which was qute big so i had it investigated by the hospital even so i still it was still not causing any problems at all,it was decided that i should have it removed seemingly they can litteraly twist them and they come of but mine would not move it was not attatched by a stalk it was well and truly attatched and i had to have surgery i went to into hospital about 9am had the op an hour later and was home again for tea i was really terrified as i always am but quite honestly i was fine i took it easy for a couple of days and 6 weeks later i got the results from pathology which were clear, i know it is a worrying time 20 years earlier i had laser treatment for pr cancerous cells and i thought it was maybe connected but the consultant assured me that 99.9% ot polyps are harmless so have it removed to be on the safe side i hope this helps.

I agree with neerum, have the polyp removed just to be safe. I had one 2 years ago, to which the doctor did a biopsy first and later removed it. He removed it right in his office, and it wasn't that bad. I had it made out to be worse than it was. It didn't really hurt - just a pinch - and it was gone. He sprayed some "gunk" on the site to reduce bleeding and I was off. It was a lil uncomfortable for a day or two, but nothing real serious. The tests came back negative for cancer as well.

I have a question about polyps. I was just diagnosed with one on my cervix. My pap was VERY painful. I cant remember the names she used to remove it but it was "something nitrate?" She put some gray colored stuff on the end of one of those big q-tips and put it on the polyp. This whole pap/procedure was sooooo painful for me. She also said that my cervix looked inflamed or irritated. I do have problems with bleeding during sex and sore during certain positions. Is this a normal way to get rid of this? I cant seem to find much about it. Thanks!
