My mother wakes up every morning with major swollen hands( her wedding band now is on her pinky finger) & her face is so swollen it almost closes her eyes. Her feet do not swell. She does not use salt or alcohol. She is 61 years old. Do you know what this may be a sign of? Thank you for your help.

Could be a kidney function problem. Best to see her doctor for proper diagnosis of the problem. It is not normal to swell like that.
Just not using salt at the table is not enough, we should not cook with salt or used canned foods without draining, rinsing, or eat in resturants very much or use pre-prepared foods, all have too much sodium. Carbonated drinks have 30 mg. sodium as a rule. Lunch meats, weinies, etc. are high sodium.
She may not have a proper balance of sodium and potassium.
