I hope I didn't misunderstand your comments. But it sounds like you are talking about a starvation diet.

We hear so much about starvation diets failing. The best thing to do is to learn about a healthy diet and find some good form of exercising for you.

If you look at this as a long term solution, then I think you'll be happier. You could try your method, but I hope that you don't make yourself sick by overdoing it. If that starvation method works, it would be the first time that I've heard of it being successful - long term.

You should look at eating properly as a lifetime commitment. It's really this simple: Healthy sensible diet plus exercise equals a good manageable weight.

I lost my excess weight nearly 20 years ago, and have kept it off. So, I speak from experience. I know also how miserable it is to diet. I don't even like to hear the word "diet". I stay within my 5 pound range. I never want to go through that two year misery again (of dieting). So, I understand....

There's so many different conflicting diets out there, that make it so confusing. But I think a lot of them say to avoid the junk foods - like cakes, cookies, chips, ice cream, donuts, pastries, sodas, crackers, and most fast foods etc. You might want to start there.

Also note that when a person is cutting back the foods, you'll want to supply the body with the most nutritious foods available. It's so important to have these nutrients.

I wish you well. I hope I didn't go on too much. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/gabby.gif

Hi dietgirl- I am so sorry to hear you have had a bad experience with your dieting. Please do not let this discourage you! We all deserve the chance to feel happy and comfortable in our own bodies. I would like to offer a small bit of advice here, although it might be something you have already tried. A protein diet is not especially difficult to follow, and will usually give good results if you stick to it with no slip ups. You may want to check with your doctor first if you have any medical conditions such as diabetes or kidney disorder, or are on any medications. I would suggest that for any diet. Now, there are plenty of books out there about high protein/low carb dieting, and it is probably best to just check one out of the library, as once you get the hang of it much is common sense and needs no further reference. It is essential though, to own a pocket sized carb counter book, or you won't be sure about your portions. The things I eat on a typical day are: Eggs w/ cheese and chorizo sausage, tuna salad or egg salad, pork rinds, de-caff coffee w/ cream, RC Diet cola, steak w/ garlic butter, salad w/ dressing and diet jello with whipped cream or diet ice pop! Very minimal cooking skills are required, although with what you're allowed to eat, whipping up a gourmet meal is certainly possible! The best thing is that this way of eating is so good it can almost feel like you're not dieting at all. So anyway good luck with whatever you decide to try, and let us know how you're doing, ok?

A followup to the last post - my Doctor insists on me getting ample protein when restricting calories. In his opinion, protein is the most important component because it builds your body and reduces hunger. It has seemed to work for me. In my case, I dont spend tons of dollars. Fat free yogurt (plain), low-fat cottage cheese are excellent sources of protein and they're in the grocery store. I'm not sold on the diet bars. Protein yes, but they're expensive and it's not much food. I think the body works better when it thinks the stomach has food in it. Good luck!
