Just had my A1C done. Doc said my BS is borderline. Everything came out ok except the Kidney Functioning test doesn't look good at all. I said "What do you want me to do?" He said try to lose a few pounds, exercise, and come back in a month for urine testing. (this was via telephone!)
He said maybe it's just a one time bad test, and the next one will be ok. (?)
A month? I'm worried. I am getting a copy of these results and will be talking with my diab. educator on Tues. Up until now, I have been trying to eat sugar free, but the exercise is where I tend to fail being a seasonal person. (I love to exercise certain times of the year, fall off the exercise band wagon in Dec. and then in summer, sorta a summer SAD.) Any feedback appreciated!

The best way to check for kidney damage is a 24 hour urine test (to see how much your kidneys remove) and accompanying blood work (to see if the kidneys are removing enough).
Low protein is the way to go and try to make sure you are hydrated.
Good luck.
Also, try posting on the kidney board they have here at health boards.

What is borderline BS? If you already have a Diabetes Educator than havent you already been diagnosed a diabetic? He needs to tell you what your blood sugar numbers are. What is your a1c? You in turn need to understand what those numbers mean and how you can effectively control them.
As for your "sugar free" diet, even things that have "0 sugars" have CARBS which turn to sugar. Its misleading for food manufacturers to advertise "sugar free" which makes people think it wont effect their blood sugars....it will. Hopefully you are following the food labels and watching your carbs. If you want an easy rule to follow, think farmer like...if you cant hunt it, fish for it, grow it, or raise it, you probably shouldnt be eating it. If you "have" to have it, half it.

Thank You for your replies! Yeah, I got caught up in the definition of Type II, then back to Pre-diabetes. (I just consider myself one anyway, because my BS can rise at certain times.)
I have a copy of my tests now. The BS was 124. Creatine, Serum, Low .3
BUN/Creatine Ratio 50 High, If this makes sense to anyone, please post and I may go to the Kidney board.
I started the water, because I figure the coffee drinking has caught up with me. For every cup of coffee, I drink a cup of water. I now have a pitcher of water each day set out to drink. (I have a coffee addiction). Yikes.
I also have a lot going on in my lower back right now---arthritis, fibroid, and the obvious lab results. Talk about a confusing area to have all three perhaps creating havoc at once! Thanks for listening and any responses. :) I will be checking back on this post Monday.

If you were 124 fasting, imagine what your sugars could be 2 hrs after meals which is where type 2 diabetes shows up 5-10 yrs earlier. If you havent gotten a meter yet Im sure your CDE has one or could get you one. Good luck w/ the kidney thing. I think the water is a great addition to your life, it can only help you!

Do not be worring just yet, get the next blood test done for follow up. You must remember that diabetes is a monster to the kidneys, #1 kidney disease causer. Just get the follow up test done and see what the results say. Get with the educater and the person will calm you down on what needs to be done for you. Take care and relax a bit hon. Stress is not good. Be positive for you. Hugs for today. :D
