I am fairly new to weight lifting and have a question. For lunch I generally like to eat a high protein low carb 250 calorie bar. Would it be better to eat it before working out or after? And why?
Please explain.
Thank you!!

both....before and after....after especially bc the protein aids in recovery....protein before for energy and after to prevent catabolism.

chk out SELF magazine of August issue.. it states that you shoudl drink 2 glasses of water after weight lifting.. it will help build up the protein for ur muscles.. soemthing like that.

heres the deal and why. You should take the protein before and AFTER. more importantly after. when you do extensive workouts your muscles mecome damages(so to say) they feel very sore and are worn down. When you take protein it assists the mitochondria in rebuilding your muscles again. So after when ur muscles are in pain take ur protien and youll be set.

Thanks Mac. I do a protein shake in the AM then lift weights at lunch and do a protein bar after. For dinner I have meat & salad with nuts so probably get good amounts of protein.
That should be good, huh?
Thanks for all the info everyone!!

Tauri, you and I were posting back and forth on this board, under the post called, 'good advice'by:Tamrock.

I posted back to you but I think maybe you forgot we were discussing something over there. Check that out.

Also for doing weights with your diet it's a good thing to take 200mg of Magnesium citrate with food, in the morning and in the evening.

Read about it at the thyroid dysfuction board ...under the post called; 'Information Archive' It's on page #2, just scroll down till you find the info. on magnesium.

Please relpy back on what I wrote to you at the other post. Diana
