I just bought "Hi-Fiber" tablets from Walgreen's. Has anyone tried these before? Do they work? The directions say take 2 or 3, 15 to 30 minutes before you eat; does fiber really suppress your appetite? Thanks.

You can get plenty of fiber from foods you eat. There is no need to waste your money on these tablets.

This was almost my exact reply to the same topic posted in the "Weight Loss" forum.

I agree wholeheartily with both replies. And since you already bought them and did ask for an opinion, I would say that yes they do help suppress the appetite when taken with at least 2 glasses of water (yes the water also helps) and are so much healthier than all those hyped up diet pills on the market as long as the fiber is from an all natural source. Of course try to get your fiber from a good diet but if you are like most Americans we fail miserably in that department (this coming from someone who eats fiber foods at every meal and can't get enuf). I'm pretty sure we are supposed to get about 25-30 grams (not Milligrams but Grams) a day. Anyways, good luck, I hope you will eat healthy, drink lots of water & get plenty of excersise! Sincerely, T

One of the best sources of dietary fiber is navy beans. Just 1/4 cup of uncooked navy beans provide 12 grams of fiber, which is about 50% of the recommended daily allowance. They are a bit higher in carbohydrates (the good kind though; only 1 gram of sugar) and a good source of protein 8 grams. I get a whole package for about 80 cents. I fill a tortilla with navy beans, some brown rice, salsa, onions and corn and get about 75% of the fiber from just one burrito.

I like these especially because such a small amount of beans provides high levels of fiber; you'd have to eat a much larger amount of broccoli or celery for the same level of fiber. Plus they're all natural.

Of course you can season and and use beans in a variety of ways.

To everyone: Thanks for your replies, I appreciate it.
To Tauri (or anyone else that might know): How do I know if the fiber comes from an all natural source? Thanks.

It should say on the container, or you can do a search on the web. I like phsyllium husk fiber myself, very gentle. I personally can't eat beans but for those who can it is a great source of fiber and other important nutrients (protein included)! Good luck!! T

Whole grains are also an excellent source of fiber. Trying eating brown rice instead of white rice. Oatmeal is good too.

I grind up wheat berries, flax seed, and brown rice to make a great tasting cereal, which I mix with bananas and some milk. Vegetables and fruits are also a good sources of fiber.

Stay away from the processed refined products, and try eating more natural fiber-rich foods. See if that helps instead.... :)

Personally I don't believe in taking these fiber tablets. As long as you drink plenty of water and eat your vegetables, you should be OK.
