Hello, I was just diagnosed as being Diabetic this past Thursday with an A1C score of 11. I understand that means blood sugar level of 270. What I am wondering if that is the average my sugar has been running for 3 months(numbers higher and lower than the 270) or the highest it has been. Thanks for help understanding. It is all very new to me.

It gives you an average. That means that sometimes your sugar was lower, but also that some of the time your sugar was much higher than 270.

Good luck getting that down.

Your fasting numbers should be between 70-120 and your 2 hr after meals should be under 140. Understand every 1% you bring your a1c down you are lessening your risk for heart attack, stroke, and other terrible complications.

Keep some things in mind...if you wake up in the morning and your blood sugar is high, just think what it will do when you eat. That is why food choices are really important. If you are going to cheat, only eat 1/2 of what you would normally eat...your body will thank you... and if you dont exercise, by walking 20 minutes a day, you will loose weight, feel better, and help your own insulin, food, and any meds work better!
