Im not sure what is happening...this has happened to me in the past, and seemed to go away on its own..but now it is happening again...I can be just sitting around and all of a sudden my chest will feel real tight and the back of my throat also feels tight. I have been reading online about anxiety and panic attacks and normally includes a racing heartbeat..my heart does not race when this happens..I can normally get rid of this feeling by standing up, walking around and chugging down water...has anyone experienced this before? Is this panic attacks or should i be concerned its something with my heart?

Yes that sounds like a panic attack. Have you gone in to have a check up with your doctor this year? You may want to mention this to him/her and then you can come up with ideas on how you want to work through anxiety. There are medications, and also therapy that could be helpful. I suffer from anxiety, and its not easy but there is hope.

You might have Mitral Valve Prolapse. Symptoms are elevated heart rate, anxiety, missed heartbeats, strange tight feeling in the sternum and throat. There are more, but all of those syptoms are exaggerated by stress. The pill can also cause elevated heart rates and false positives in blood tests for thyroid trouble. A doctor can give you a medication called Inderol to regulate your heart rate, but if you have MVP, you'll have it forever and will just have to get used to it. I'd ask your doctor about it if I were you...

Maybe Im reading the post wrong, but Kelly you stated you did not have the racing heartbeat? You still may be experiencing anxiety attacks, but not full blown panic attacks. Not everyone has every symptom when experiencing them. You may want to check out GERD/Acid Reflux associated with stress/anxiety-sounds more along your line.
