my friend's daughter's epilepsy gets worse every year and she is pumped up with drugs (2x a day, seven huge pills ata time) to try to control the seizures which seem to happening daily, according to the parents, not the 12 year old child. is she a relaible source for knowing when she has seizures or are the parents right in telling me that kids don't seem to know when they have them?

the household is very volitile and i was wondering if that also contributes to worsening epilepsy...the stress level at home is wrought with marital issues and screaming, yelling, financial stress, etc. apparently they say she has benign rolandic epilepsy but when i read about it, it seems like hers is much, much worse. can it be getting worse because of home life??

The first part of your post has me a bit confused. Are you saying the girl says she has them daily but the parents are not saying that? Sorry i just do not understand that part.

Yes, stress can increase seizures for many people. BRE is a label that many neuros start out with for kids and seizures but it can go into other forms of E later on if not outgrown.

My kids do know when they have seizures. It depends on the types, however. A kid with absence may not realize he is loosing time. My son knows he has one in sleep by how he feels when he wakes up.

A toxic home environment makes things worse for kids without E, so I would think that all that chaos would make E worse in a kid, and that a 12 year old would have some sort of clue- that's old enough to be able to describe when something isn't right (and a lot of much younger kids know if they're going to have or have had a seizure).

Is she a child protective custody candidate?
