Hello,
I am a 20 year old male, i had unprotected sex about 1 year and a month ago, so sometime in july about a year ago, well last december i got tested for hiv and it came back negative, so today i decieded to go get tested again, is 3 1/2 months long enough for the first time to show if you have hiv or not, the reason i am getting tested is because i have had diaherra for about a year now, i have went to the doc for that and he can cure it fro a bit but only for a bit. see the werid thing is though i was in flordia 2 weeks after my unproteced sex, and i are some crab meet that i warmed up in the microwave, and that night i had really bad diaherra and have not been able to get fully ride of it yet, is that a tall tell sign that i have HIV, but any way tomorrow i should know if i am + or - i hope for the best, just can i have some answers tonight yet would help me slep, but be honest with me in the answers please..

thanks Missouri Man

Rest assured - a test at 3.5 months post exposure is conclusive. As long as you've been safe since then you do not have HIV. You are fine.

You have had diarrhea for a year? I don't know what could be causing that, but it's not HIV. What did the doctor say about that?

To respond to your message of unprotected sex I looked at AIDS.org

http://www.aids.org/info/FAQs.html#howlong

How long after a possible exposure should I be tested for HIV??

The time it takes for a person who has been infected with HIV to seroconvert (test positive) for HIV antibodies is commonly called the "Window Period."

The California Office of AIDS, published in 1998, says about the window period: "When a person is infected with the HIV virus, statistics show that 95-97% (perhaps higher) of all infected individuals develop antibodies within 12 weeks (3-months)."

The National CDC has said that in some rare cases, it may take up to six months for one to seroconvert (test positive). At this point the results would be 99.9% accurate.

* What does this mean for you?

The three-month window period is normal for approximately 95% of the population. If you feel any anxiety about relying on the 3-month result, by all means you should have another test at 6 months. (Source: San Francisco AIDS Foundation)

For the diarrhea that lasts so long, a friend of mine said he had a similar issue last year. He says to have a C-diff test ran. Or scientifcally called Clostridium difficile.

More information available at http://mqa.dhs.state.tx.us/qmweb/Cdif.htm

Hope this helps!

Sounds to me like you picked up a nasty little bug when you ate that crab meat or it could be a parasite. Don"t worry, ask your doc to do a test on your excretions and check for possible causes. I cannot believe your doctor has not found out yet, pooping your brains out is not good for your overall health....Smile and demand that your doc find out what the problem is......
