Im 25 years old and have had diabetes since 11 years old. When I hit 18 i didnt care about my diabetes (u know wat its like wen ur young) and I drank and smoke way too much, mixing all sorts of alcahol and sometimes binge drinking 2 nights in a row.

Its only wen i turned 24 that i realised how stupid i was being and that it will cause problems for me, now i fear the worst may have already started to happen. My eyesight is something i cudnt handle losing and dont think i wud carry on living if the worst happened, this is why im so worried about whats happening at the moment.

Basically, doesnt matter wat time of day or wat im doin but i keep seeing small black shapes in my vision, as i look up or down the small blurry dark shapes follow my vision, is this the start of something bad? (i already know it is coz this doesnt happen without a major problem).

It started about 2 months ago, i keep hoping it cud be something to do with the summer being here and too much sun, but i dont go out often enuff to get this, also there hasnt been a great deal of sun.

I am absolutely bricking it right now, i am terrified of my sight goin wrong, i dont know wat i'd do if the worst happened. Ive got an appointment with the opticians friday to have a check up and im gonna mention these dark blurry bits.

Any similar experience'd info wud be good, thanks.

With the diabetes, you need to get regular eye exams by an opthalmologist, preferably one who specializes in diseases of the retina. Diabetic retinopathy is the most common eye problem in diabetics. If I were you, I would call my regular physician (the one who treats your diabetes) and explain the problem you are having. He can refer you to an opthalmologist who sees diabetics routinely.
Good Luck.

These sound like floaters. They are pretty common I think. I have them and I don't have diabetes but I am very nearsighted, or was before Lasik. I am only 25 years old, my doctor said that almost everyone has a few of them. Mine are annoying and I can see them best in the sunlight. I am also worried because I think that I have more of them than is normal but my doctor didn't seem to be that concerned when I spoke with him at my last appt. I'd like to hear what you Dr. says after your appt.
Good Luck!
