Trytobepositive buliem 08-24-2005, 11:57 AM So glad you got to the bottom of it! My son's doctor ordered an EKG after his first gran mal. It was normal thankfully. I thought he was just ruling out syncope but now I see that there was more to it. Good luck with your son. I hope his condition is easily controlled. Take Care, Julie Trytobepositive 08-24-2005, 05:11 PM Thank you very much for your response! neurowreck 08-24-2005, 08:01 PM A while back, there were a series of presumably healthy football players, and other athletes who collapsed on the field/courts/rinks, and it was found out then that they had this disorder. From what I understand, it can go undetected until something tragic happens, and then leaves everyone wondering what happened and why it wasn't picked up earlier... I personally believe that all young atheletes should have EKGs just to rule out any underlying problems, since medication can help a lot of cardiac disorders, just like E. JMHO that it's a smart thing to have done, and needs to be part of routine sports physicals..... I don't have kids, but I can't imagine the grief of the death of any child, let alone something sudden, and that could have been prevented. raulsmom 02-15-2006, 01:03 AM Wow I did not realize I had posted this info already, I was a mess during that time and am now just getting better. I just wanted to make sure that people out there know other possibilities of their symptoms. We where very Blessed to have found this out, although the Dr. still cant figure out why this only happened in his sleep. Also when the ambulance came they would chech his heart and say it was fine. Long QT Syndrom is the measurement of your heart beats. Even though they do these test many Dr. do not check for this by measuring the heart beats, please just ask your Dr, to specifically check for this. It could save a life. raulsmom 02-15-2006, 01:07 AM Oh my son has had a defibulater inserted because his condition is considered serious. Hard to believe for many years no Dr. ever caught this, also this is heredetary and 50 percent chance can be passed down to his children. Although my husband and I never had symptoms nor any extended family. |
