Hello
I am so sorry about what you have been going through. First off, may I suggest you get a new doctor.
When you say you were tested for everything, what exactly did that entail? Did the doctor take cultures & blood work?
The only way a herpes culture would turn up positive is if you have an active sore, and if it is a healing sore, it may turn up negative.
When I first contracted herpes (I contracted it from oral sex), I had both a culture & blood test. The culture came back positive for herpes, and the blood test came back positive as well, type specific, I contracted type 1 genitally. I have heard that it can take time to show up in your blood, however, not for me.
I do suggest if you did not have a blood test, that you do get one.
Please try to relax, if you do in fact have herpes, stress can bring it on. The next time you have a sore, go to a new doctor for a culture & blood test, it is not that hard to diagnose, if you do have herpes, it will test positive sooner or later. When you had the first sore show up, did you experience flu like symptoms? This is very common with a primary outbreak. There is also USUALLY more than 1 sore.
I hope you find a doctor with more compassion, they should make that a manditory class they have to take, that & common sense! I once went to a doctor for blood tests, and asked to be tested for everything, AIDS, herpes etc... he had no idea I had herpes, there was no need to tell him... when my results came back, he said everything was perfectly fine, I said really? did I test negative for everything? herpes? he told me I tested positive for type 1 which was no big deal, they were only the annoying cold sores you get on your lip, not genital herpes....
could you imagine? this was a doctor saying this!
Best of luck to you, and keep us posted on how your doing.

the doctor tested me for STDs by taking cultures. i havent had any blood work done because i heard it may take a few months for anything to register, but it looks like i might have to soon =/. i dont think i had an active sore when the culture was done, but i called my doctor and she told me that the tests were "very very accurate"- whatever that means.
when i found the first sore, i felt totally fine. i think i was a little itchy down there but i didnt have any flu-like symptoms and the blister was completely painless. however, this time around im in a lot of discomfort and there appears to be more sores (red bumps?).
i guess ill just have to learn to accept this because i dont know what else could cause scabbing like this )o:. thanks for the response

Hi again...
I know the "not knowing" is difficult. I can only tell you my experience... my primary outbreak was EXTREMELY painful, there were clusters of sores, not just 1, I had terrible flu like symptoms, and urinating was like being burned if it touched any of the affected area. I had a classic primary OB. From what you explain, it does not seem to be (if it is) a classic case. I am not saying you do or don't have herpes...
you said you have to learn to accept this because you don't know what else would cause scabbing. Any kind of irritation that had broken skin involved would scab over, this does not mean it is herpes. Sometimes I will get itchy patches of skin (maybe from an allergy) and if I scratch it to much, it scabs over. This time you have more blisters (red bumps?) could this possibly be razor burn that got irritated? I know I use a buzzer to shave because I prefer to be hairless, and sometimes my skin gets irritated.
I contracted herpes when I was a teenager, over 10 years ago, I have never had an outbreak with sores since my primary, and for a long time I was just waiting for something to show up.... you can really drive yourself crazy looking for it, so please just try to relax... If you show any sign of something that you think could be herpes, go straight to the doctor for a check-up, and ask for a blood test as well.
Take care,

If you get into a doctor early enough for them to swab the sore then this is often a fairly accurate method of getting a result of some sort. The other thing is the type specific blood test. Dont be afraid to make suggestions to your doctor as half the doctors out there seem to be clueless when it comes to herpes, not to mention a lot of other things!! It's very upsetting.
My doctor dismissed my first ob as being a skin irritation due to it's location and the fact it didn't look like a typical herpes ob. It was only when i went to a sexual health clinic that the doctors knew what tests to perform and offered me a counselling service if the results came back positive, plus a heap of other information. I was diagnosed last year in november with genital type 2. I pretty much stay away from my doctor these days and visit the sexual health clinic for my pap smears and any other sexual or health queries i might have etc. I'd say most countries would have clinics like these available.

I just found out that I have it. They did a swab and the skin culture came back positive for Type 2. My blood test came back negative. They said that means that this is probably my primary OB. No flu like symptoms, but lots of pain, soreness, irritation, etc. Sux.

all outbreaks are different, and doctors are aloof. Go to a STD clinic or a borad certified OBGYN who specializes in something. Some blood tests can test positive if you had childhood chicken pox or shingles. I had my first outbreak about 12 days ago. It began as itchy (what I thought was a pimple) until I took a look. It was mild, I'm pregnant and had become upset because I missed an interview for a job that could have made a big difference in my financial situation, next day I had an O/B. My ex has type 2 and I am pregnant with our second child. I pored peroxide on it, no pain. I had a dull cramp in my back thigh and buttox (which I thought was lack of calcium and potassium) that is also a symptom. A few days later my doctor swabed it and it felt like she was pulling my hairs out. My ex only had 2 break outs in the 3 yrs we were together, both due to the stress of cheating. We were very sexually active the week of his break out and viola, my going away present. Be calm, don't dwell, eat LOTS of garlic, drink Licorice tea and pay attention to your body.
Bless you

Not that it helps any, but at least you now know that you have it and which type it is. All you can do now is learn as much as you can about coping during ob time.
