Hi everyone,

I posted awhile back but haven't been back since, sorry about that, but I was diagnosed almost a year and a half ago, I just turned 20, and I am a type two diabetic. I am currently on 20 mgs of glipizide er and 45 mgs of actos. I went for a doctor visit today and she told me that I may have to get on insulin if I do not get my weight under control. I do not want to get to the point of using insulin. I have followed the diet that my dietition set for me but I am just not losing the weight. I do get excersie, I work with children so I am chasing them around all day long and I run on the treadmill. I just don't know what else to do. I am going to join jenny craig on saturday. Any help would be wonderful.

Thanks.

One of the other things you can do is strength training. Cardio is great and important, but strength training will also help you lose the weight.

Good luck to you.

The drugs you are taking can cause weight gain and your M.D. should know that instead of making you feel guilty. There are some other diabetes sites on the I'net where Actos takers have stated that they gained LOADS--some said 60-80 lbs-- of weight after they took that drug. My own M.D. stopped my glipizide when I started Byetta because she said that glip can cause weight gain. I'll have to say that I didn't understand why I was not losing wt on a strict diabetic diet, but if glip prevents wt loss, that would be the answer. I don't want to go on insulin either.
