Hi! I Was Diagnosed With Type 1 Gen About 6 Months Ago. It Was Devastating To Say The Least, But I Read Up On It, And Alot Of Sites Say That You Get Ob's With It Maybe Every Other Year Or So.... Not So! Had My First 6 Months Ago... Pretty Mild I Thought It Was Just Some Irritation, A Yeast Infection Or Bv... But The Swollen Lymph Node Gave It Away... Then I Saw Nothing For About 4 Months. Next Ob 4 Months Later, A Few Minutes After I Had Eaten Raw Fresh Garlic For The 1st Time Ever! And It Was Mild As Well, But Seemed Like There Were A Couple More Blisters Than The 1st Ob. About A Week Later, A Couple Days After It Had Gone Completely, I Started Getting This Burning, Tingling, Weird Type Pain In My Leg, But It Was The Opposite Leg Of The Ob. It Went Away After A Few Days. The Next Month, After My Period Cycle, I Got The Same Pain, This Time Accompanied By A Small Bump That Didn't Hurt Or Itch Or Anything At All. During This Time, Since My 2nd Ob I Had Been Taking Fresh Garlic Every Single Morning, A Multivitamin That Contained 500mg Lysine, Echinacea, Zinc, Whole Nine! The Leg Pain Lasted About A Week, And Then I Started To Take More Lysine, About 1000-2000 Mg A Day. I Stopped Taking The Garlic After That Because I Thought It May Be Contributing To My Ob's Since It Wasnt Until I Started Taking The Garlic That I Saw The 2nd Ob. This Month, My Period Came, Then I Got The Leg Pain, Then About 5 Days Later, Last Night, I Saw The Bumps, 2-3 This Time, And They Are Painful, Doesn't Hurt To Pee, But It Does To Sit For A Long Time, They Are The Size Of Pinhead. However, I Always Get The Bump On The Opposite Side From The Leg Pain. And Sometimes I Get The Leg Pain Out Of The Blue During The Month For A Day Or Half A Day And It Will Disappear With No Sign Of On Ob. The Biggest Thing Is, I Feel Like I May Have A Swollen Lymph Node In My Groin. Not Big And Swollen Like The First Ob, But A Little Enlarged I Think.
My Questions For All Who Read This Post, And Those With Experience With This Virus Is:
1) Can You Have A Swollen Lymph Node With Recurrences The Way You Do With The 1st Ob???!!!
2) Can You Have Leg Pain With Every Ob?! Does Anyone Else Experience The Burning And Tingling On The Skin And In The Leg That I Do, Or Am I The Only One?! The Books Say This Only Comes With Shingles And I Have Never Had Shingles!
3) Is It Normal To, In The Last 6 Months, Have Had 3 Recurrences, Although They Are Mild, After Each Period Cycle? Will This Ever End Or Stop? I Take Lysine And A Multivitamin Every Single Day, So Why Is It Coming On? I Am Trying To Stay Off Rx's, But Am Tempted To Go In To The Dr. And Get A Rx For 5 Days For Valtrex Or Something And Maybe It'll Keep It Away For Longer Than A Month.
4) Has Anyone Else Experienced A Problem With The Garlic At First? I Am Thinking Maybe I Should Stick It Out And Start Taking It Again, Since This Time My Ob Is Painful And Before While I Was Taking It, It Was Not.
Please Help, Or Respond, Anyone Who Reads This... Even If You Think It May Not Help Me... Just To Know Someone Read It And Maybe Understands Is A Help To Me... Even If You Think What You Have To Say May Not Be Of Any Help... Thanx!

Frequent outbreaks with hsv-1 are not as common as with hsv-2. Even still, it is common to have several outbreaks during the first year. After that, you may experience fewer. Lots of women say they experience outbreaks around the time of their cycle. Are you considering meds at all? You could consider that to get you through the first year and then try the other options.
How were you dx?
Sorry I don't have much to offer. It's really hard to read your post when you type like that.

I'm sorry it was hard to read... I didn't put all the caps in, it just kind of showed up that way when i posted it, and i'm sorry if I rambled...
I was dx in February 2005, the end of the month... I'm not sure how long before that I had it... 3 years ago, I noticed some small bumps down there as well, but was never dx by a doctor, who looked and said it was nothing... i get irritated down there pretty easily, i always have... so now i wonder how many times I had a yeast infection or bv, or a "small bump" or "pimple" and it could have very well been the H. But, when I think about it that way, I wouldn't be experiencing it the way I am now if it was 3 years ago... I probably wouldn't be having ob's at all right? let me know what you think...
Also, has anyone ever tried sea veg or red marine algae? I hear sea veg has great anti-viral properties... and i may just try to get on meds for the rest of this year and see how it goes... it all depends... they scare me, and i just graduated college, so although i have insurance, they are way expensive for me...

How were you diagnosed though? blood test or culture?
I've never tried sea veg or red marine algae. Acyclovir is a generic antiviral if you decide to go on meds. It's the generic for Zovirax and it's VERY affordable. I don't remember how much at my pharmacy, but I know that a 30 day liquid supply for my son is less than the $15 copay so it doesn't even go to the insurance company.
If you contracted it 3 years ago there's no way to know for sure if you'd have obs at all or not now. It would be very unusual for you to have monthly obs if you contracted hsv1 3 years ago, though, I think you are right about that.
I hope someone has some answers for you.

Thank you so much... I was diagnosed by a culture which was definitely type specific... I guess you're right, if it was herpes 3 years ago, I guess it wouldn't cause monthly ob's... however when I first got those 3 little bumps 3 years ago, I was in bed for almost 3 months due to a very serious surgery... I was also very stressed... After that I was working out every single day, and meditating every single day, and the truth is, that for the last year and a half, I have not worked out or been very active, and I have not had any stress releiving therapy although I have a very stressful job, and this has been a very stressful time in my life... could that pose a problem for my resistance? I welcome any thoughts or comments on this...

Stress definitely has a lot to do with having ob's.
I get the leg pain often, and the skin sensitivity. I have tried experimenting with Red Marine Algae recently, but haven't gotten good results. Everyone is different, however, and what doesn't work for me might work for you.
Unless you think you are allergic to garlic, I'd continue with it for a while longer.

Thank you so much for your help and support. Yeah, I just ordered the sea vegg so maybe that will help... They say it has antiviral properties.... I am glad that someone can at least relate to the leg pain and skin sen****vity... I was beginning to think I was the only one! I have decided to stick with the garlic as well...
One question... Is it safe to use a OTC yeast infection med while having an ob? I have a YI right now... Probably from putting peroxide down there on the bumps. I don't wanna set off some kind of reaction while I'm having an ob...

I think the yeast meds may make your ob worse--most creams and ointments do. But your yeast infection could make the ob worse. So maybe you should experiment. Any home remedy for yeast involves douching with something acidic, which wouldn't make the ob worse but would burn like crazy. When I used to get yeast infections, I would douche with warm water, salt (1/4-1/2 teaspoon per cup water), and a little dash of vinegar; and I would eat yogurt (must be plain yogurt--no sugar or flavorings!) and take probiotics (a powder from the health food store which I mixed with water) everyday. Sometimes I would thin live-culture yogurt with warm water and douche with that. However, as I said, this would burn when it hits a sore, since yogurt is acidic, too.

got it! thanks... I think the YI may just go away on its own... if it isn't better in a couple of days, then I will try something else... but i eat alot of garlic, and alot of yogurt... so i'm hoping this will help the yeast infection as well as the ob! thanx backpacker... you're great to have on this board!
