Have any adults had this procedure? How long was the healing process? How do they perform it? What was it like after it healed?

I had it when I was 13. It was the probably the easiest of my 7 surgeries. I was in very little pain on the whole, the only drawback is that my legs are really weak now and I developed lumbar lordosis. Make sure to discuss lordosis with your surgeon before hand. There are two ways that they perform the surgery. The names are escaping me at the moment, but I'm sure you can find info on the internet. The way they did mine was they made about a 3 inch incision on the back of my leg above my knee. Then they took this long hook thing and literally stretched the tendons. They also released the tendons on both sides sides of my legs to allow the other ones to stretch.

I had it this summer (I'm 19). I had casts on for a month, the pain wasn't too bad, and I am still going to physical therapy but so far my recovery has been good. They did my incision on the inside of my thigh, although the scar is still purple you can't even see it unless I turn my leg. The surgeon could not get my legs all the way straight (only about 95%) because the tendons in my knees were too tight...but that's ok, because then I don't have to worry about my knees hyperextending. :)

Oh yeah, that's another thing. my knees hyperextend a lot now. But that's better than being crouched!

My knees crack A LOT now... but they're straight enough for me. (I think I might have arthritis in them, since I have it in my toes...just what I need  lol) My dr. said if I wanted to get my legs all the way straight he would have to cut my femur, because my legs aren't the same size or something. No thanks.
Not saying the same thing would happen to you, though. :)

LOL my knees crack a lot too! Especially when I'm sitting down for a long time and then get up.

HI my son just had hamstring lengthenings done this past april . just last week he also had his achillies tendons lengthened . he still has his casts on and TODAY he stood all by himself for 40 seconds .. he stood up so very straight . I could really see his balance kicking in . it was wonderful .
he was hit by a semi when he was 9 . he has a brain injury . he is now 17 . he has had to relearn everything all over again .
I will keep you updated .. debbie

I am 25 and the same surgery is recommended for me. When the doctor gave me the info on it a few months ago, he said that he would put me in straight leg braces for 4 weeks and that I would be able to walk with them.
Can I ask why they are recommeding the surgery for you? I havent decided whether or not to go ahead with it... I'm having severe pain and cramping in the legs and the doctors think tight hamstrings are contributing. Is this your experience?
